Well it ran for 2 hours and 17 minutes, then stopped. I'll have to troubleshoot that today. Still needs a healthy splash of color, and that weight will eventually be replaced with something neater. This is a lot of fun, except for cutting all of those dowels.

Pendulum and (temporary) weight assembled last night. I'll hang the clock and fill the weight with sand tonight, and we'll see if it works. My talented artist/wife is still pondering this project. It'll be very nice after she's done with it.

So far, so good! It ticks and tocks. Still need to make the pendulum.

15 dowels on this beast. And a rubber band. This is the drive arbor. Complete with the winding barrel and drive cog and pawls. The rubber band keeps the pawls engaged with the winding barrel ratchet. This keeps (or should) the drive weight from plummeting to the floor. Instead, the weight (300g) will pull on this wheel, which drives the other wheels, the hands, and the pendulum.

Wheel truing jig. Just like building bike wheels, but with Elmer’s. You can see a few of the dowels in use here. I count 9 of them. The arbor is 71mm long, fyi. This is the escapement wheel. It is a major player in the “tick-tock” sound.
