FIT is more than just a school, it's an experience. It is what you as a student put into it that makes it great.
My FIT experience began in 1996. A small town girl from Maine, eager to make my mark in the world...and what a better place to do that than at FIT in New York City.
I became an RA in Nagler Hall, from ’97-’98. It was an incredible learning experience and I couldn't have asked for better group of girls to manage that year. Additionally I had an incredible time getting involved in student government, where I had the opportunity to organize several fun events for the students, including a talent show and a few comedy shows. Admittedly, planning those events were more beneficial to my future career in event planning than many of the classes that I took in college.
I found that FIT had so much to offer ... from activities, clubs, and student organizations, to top-notch internship opportunities and alumni resources. I felt very fortunate to have so many wonderful experiences to show for it in the end. Ultimately, it wasn't just the classes or the atmosphere that made my college experience great ... it was discovering that FIT was a community, and it brought with it the support and encouragement that a young person needed to get out into the world and make their mark.

I moved to New York to attend FIT in 2012 from Connecticut. I had only been to the city twice before I made this life-changing decision. I truly couldn’t afford college but as an affordable SUNY school, FIT made it possible to pay my way through. I am still best friends with my college roommate who moved in diagonally from me in Nagler freshman year. Although I moved back to Connecticut after graduation, FIT gave me the confidence to own my own store and become a head coach.

Participating in the fashion show at FIT was an amazing experience. Professor Arbuckle taught me so much about children's wear. I will never forget the education I received at FIT. It helped me become a teacher of fashion design myself, so that I can pass on the “passion for fashion” to the next generation.
