October 2017 marks the 118th anniversary of the opening of the instrumental music studio here at #UNCG. When our doors opened 125 years ago, only vocal music was taught. In 1899, Charles Duncan McIver and the Board of Directors approved the creation of the Special Department of Instrumental Music, under the leadership of Charles J. Brockmann and Laura Brockmann. Although the Brockmanns offered training in a variety of instruments, only piano and violin counted in terms of grading. You can read more about the early music curriculum at our institution here: http://uncghistory.blogspot.com/2014/01/music-on-demand-part-2-music-and-early.html
