Elephants having a Spa day! @sheldricktrust ・・・ As you can see, the mud bath can be a boisterous affair! Shukuru, who prefers to do things at a calmer pace, often stands off to the side when things get especially rowdy (you can see her in the background here). The rest of the Umani Springs herd knows this about her and is always looking out for her. One day, Jasiri saw Ziwa approaching the mud bath, where Shukuru was quietly wallowing. Ziwa can be quite a mischief maker, so Jasiri moved in front of Shukuru and cut the younger boy off. The two bulls enjoyed a fun strength testing match instead, and thanks to Jasiri’s preventative measures, Shukuru was able to enjoy her mud bath in peace. Umani Springs is our newest Reintegration Unit, and each member of its herd has overcome incredible odds. Thanks to its lush forest environment, it’s a place where vulnerable elephants like Shukuru can one day thrive in the wild.
