“Le Chat Noir (The Black Cat)” d'Edgar G. Ulmer (1934) - librement inspiré de la nouvelle éponyme d'Edgar Allan Poe (1843) - avec Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, David Manners, Jacqueline Wells et Lucille Lund, mars 2018.
I think ulmer was lying about stealing kiss from elia. Here's proof: look up lady jeyne swann on the wiki. She was rescued from Kingswood brotherhood by ser Selmy. Is it really hard to see that old bandit ulmer's lying on purpose to conflate his sordid reputation by swapping in a highborn woman of Dornish marches with dorne's princess? And if the crown princess was almost harmed by bandits, paronide mad aerys would've thrown a bitch fit & the incident would've made it on history pages. - Tina
Hi!It was a possibility, i must re-read so i can talk better about this
thank you for your message ;)
Hi Mindset! Bit of a random question, but I wonder what the retinue of a highborn lady traveling through Westeros (say, to get married to another house) would look like? Catelyn for example, it's not mentioned that she brought any permanent ladies with her to Winterfell from Riverrun, but surely she traveled with knights and/or bannermen from the Riverlands to the North? What would be the appropriate number, and who would go along? Thanks in advance!
I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to this question, sorry. You’d be better off asking a medievalist, like @justadram, or someone who’s made a specialty of studying ladies’ retinues like @joannalannister or @goodqueenaly. All I do about Catelyn’s ladies is wonder why they don’t exist.
Though I can tell you a few little things, at least. We know that Jaime and Barristan, two knights of the Kingsguard, were part of Cersei’s honor guard on her way to King’s Landing to marry Robert. Princess Elia Martell was accompanied by the Kingsguard Gerold Hightower (and probably many others) on a journey that took her through the kingswood. Possibly to be married, possibly on some other trip between Dorne and King’s Landing, but either way Gerold was shot in the hand by Ulmer of the Kingswood Brotherhood, who then stole a kiss from Elia. (And her jewels, and a chest of gold.) Jeyne Swann and her septa, who were once kidnapped by the Kingswood Brotherhood, may have been with Elia, or maybe they were on a journey of their own.
And when Catelyn was sent by Robb on her diplomatic mission to Renly, she was accompanied by twenty Winterfell guards (including Hallis Mollen and Shadd) and five lordlings. (Wendel Manderly, Robin Flint, Lucas Blackwood, Perwyn Frey, and someone else.) That was during wartime, mind you, and probably a different mixture of lords and knights and guards would accompany a bride on her way to her new home, or a lady in general in peacetime. Note also that when Myrcella Baratheon went to Dorne for her betrothal/fostering, she was accompanied by the Kingsguard Arys Oakheart, her septa Eglantine, her handmaiden/double Rosamund Lannister, and five war galleys’ worth of the royal fleet, but again that was in wartime, in extreme conditions.
So again, I refer you to the lovely bloggers I mentioned above – hopefully one of them can provide more details for the normal retinue of a highborn lady. :)
