In regards to unemployment, any idea of dependents (Iām a college student) can file too or are we excluded like we are from the stimulus packages? Stay safe, thanks!
Dependents can file for UIB! UIB is specifically for people who lost income from wages, tax status does not matter. PUA is a type of UIB (pandemic unemployment assistance) and is for people who have limited work history/ are unable to find work now due to COVID-19. So if you have never worked or havenāt worked recently, and you canāt find work now, PUA would what you apply for. Itās $182/week gross.
Just keep in mind- if your family is part of any aid program, your earning either PUA or UIB may effect those benefits. Income of full time students is not counted for aid programs if it is āearnedā, but āunearnedā income such as UIB is counted. So if your family has SNAP, and you have a job while also a full time high school or college student, the income from your job will not be counted towards your householdās income. But if you lost that job due to COVID-9 and started claiming UIB, your weekly UIB would be counted as household income. I have seen clients denied or actually lose benefits due to their children or other dependents having UIB or PUA.
