I have a question that I've been wondering for a while now and would like your thoughts on: do you think the women of Thedas (whether in power or otherwise) get looked down upon because of their gender? Do you think sexism is as big of a thing in Thedas as it was in our world during those times?
I donât think sexism is nearly as big of a problem in Thedas as it was in our world during the coinciding time period. The dominant religion, while modeled after Catholicism in many ways, has a Joan of Arc figure instead of a male prophet.The Chantry is matriarchal, there are women as political leaders like Anora and Meredith, and plenty of warrior women.Â
Women could stand to be better represented among the NPCs in the game but that oversight seems to be more the result of sexism in our world and not due to an explicit decision in their worldbuilding process.
Thatâs just my off-the-cuff opinion, though, and I know that others have written far more extensively about sexism and gender roles in the Dragon Age universe. Does anyone have any links handy to that commentary?
