Below the knelt tree, between it and the river, sat Rune. He was draped in a tattered, dark blue cloak. Long dark curls fell over his shoulders, water glistening on tanned skin.
Princess—that giant hellhound that was nearly as tall as Rune himself—jumped out of the river again, shaking its body to get rid of the water, but accidentally splashing Rune (again) in the process.
"Sweetheart, don't do that." Rune covered his face with his arm as he was splashed with water. "My hair's all wet now."
Princess excitedly ran over to Rune, jumping right on him.
"Ow- Princess- whoa, relax now. I'm not going anywhere," said Rune as he ran a hand through the hellhound's fur. The hellhound laid down on its back, across Rune's lap. "Awh, good boy!" Rune gave it a belly rub as he grinned. "Whose a good boy? Yes, you are."
Meanwhile, Bones had just arrived, looking for Rune. "Rune-?" He paused, noticing the wizard with his... "dog". "Not again. Oh my god," Bones murmured to himself as he ran a hand over his face. He walked over to Rune, a bit carefully to not provoke the hellhound.
"Rune! I've been looking all over for you. What are you- What are you doing?" Bones stopped right beside Rune, as the latter looked up.
"Well, it is obvious what I'm doing." Rune smiled as he went back to petting Princess.
"You're always with that thing. How do you even actually control it?" Bones crossed his arms. "It ate seven people last week."
Rune rolled his eyes. "They come back anyway. You're always trying to make Princess look bad."
"Princess?! Runes, come on, you can't be serious. Whether they come back or not. You're beloved hellhound ate seven people!" Bones gestured towards the hellhound.
"Leave me alone, Bones. I have one day off every three weeks, and yet you've come here to disturb me again." Rune turned away from him, busy petting Princess. "Awh, whose a good boy?" He said as he scratched the hellhound behind the ears.
Bones didn't speak further, sitting down beside Rune. He leaned against the rough back of the tree. Gaze on Rune and his hellhound as the former pet and praised the dog.
Bones rolled his eyes, muttering to himself as he looked away. Even as he tried to, his eyes always went back to Rune. "Why are you always with that mutt?"
"Don't be mean, Bones. I give you plenty of attention too," replied Rune, barely sparing Bones a glance.
"That's not- that's not what I meant." Bones reddened in embarrassment. "Whatever." He looked away.
