Season 3 where everything is exactly the same except Will has glasses bc his vision for worse after being in the upside down and possessed
S3 WHERE EVERYTHING IS (â)EXACTLY(â) THE SAME BUT WILL HAS GLASSES BC HIS VISION IS WORSE AFTER BEING IN THE UPSIDE DOWN. okay letâs GO i have this wip that i am going to toss in here because it WORKS even though itâs pretty mike and will heavy... not entirely sorry:
so... Mike starts noticing that Will constantly looks like thereâs a glare in his eyes; he squints the Party approaches him from across the arcade parking lot or the food court. Mikeâs never seen Will do that-- look like that-- before. Itâs was such an unhappy expression, Mike canât forget it. Even if it dissolves once they say his name or get closer.
Mike finally asks when theyâre all at Scoops Ahoy-- celebrating Dustinâs return from camp. Willâs trying to read the little hand-out menu, but heâs holding it SO close to his face.
Mike says something dumb and cute like: Why are you trying to kiss the menu, I'm right here. And Will will smile but then sigh with a quiet, I can't read it, Mike. It's so... blurry. Robin asks for his order and it keeps Mike from looking that deeply into Willâs sentence. He shrugs and silently notes the menu is over crowded and overwhelming. Mike helps Will decide what to order-- but it isnât until later he realizes he was actually helping Will read the cluttered print.
Theyâre at the arcade, just the two of them, when Mike notices-- really notices-- it again. Theyâre playing Galaga and Will is a terrible shot. Like... heâs awful. Heâs standing strangely far away from the machine and constantly looking over at Mike, almost as if heâs nervous. Mike steps back, thinking heâs crowding Will, but he doesnât stop. He keeps checking on Mike-- or maybe seeing how Mike is checking up on him. Which, truthfully, heâs starting to do; Will hasnât made it past the first level yet and is running low on quarters.
Mike asks what the problem is: what is he looking at, looking for? He places his hand on Willâs back, assuring him heâs with Will, in case heâs getting anxious about the noise in the arcade or the shuffling of people. Will sighs as he loses again and lets his shoulders fall. As the new screen boots up, he waits a moment before leaning in toward the screen, nose an unsanitary distance to it.
âCan you really not see that screen?â Mike asks, knowing his incredulousness isnât helping but... itâs Will. If he can be honest and open with anyone without minding his words, itâs him. And this is a moment he doesnât want to walk around. Heâs never seen Will do this before. Never seen him struggle so much to see.
âNo.â Will says back. His tone is short but also tired. A quiet plea: why canât I? âI canât see anything lately. Itâs all... a giant fuzz.â
âYou should tell your mom.â Mike starts thinking about where his dad goes to get his glasses and where his doctor is. He figures theyâre friends; theyâll help each other out and help Will.
âSheâs busy... I donât know. Sheâs busy reading a lot of the time I donât want to interrupt her-- whatever sheâs studying.â Will lets the game go and loses again. Heâs looking at Mike, but theyâre close enough he doesnât have to squint.
âYou have to. This is important.â Mike says. âYouâre important. You canât be walking around blind. You wonât always have me to be your eyes.â
âWhy not?â Will says, shoulders sagging. âThen maybe Mom will stop talking about moving.â
âYeah... maybe. Then youâll just have to be with me forever.â
âForever, yeah.â
âBut I do think glasses could be nice. Really thin round ones? Like a scientist or something!â
âYou mean like Egon?â
âYeah! Yeah! Our very own Spengler! Oh my Ghostbusting hero.â Mike pretends to swoon and Will nearly knocks him over with a gentle shove.

As of late, I refuse to stop thinking about Teenager Will having to catch up with all the Upside Down Damage he's had done to his body. Like, he has to do stretches and exercises for his knees from all that running, he has to be careful with his new tinnitus, and he's getting a bit near-sighted from all the straining. So then of course, I just imagined Mike taking Will to get his first pair of glasses (and the whole Party hyping up his new frames). And it's just been cute from there.
To go with Will dealing with UD physical damage, his vocal chords are a bit damaged from all the screaming he did in S2
oh absolutely! certain tones and ranges are just cut out after like, four years of screaming for his life. His voice just gives out sometimes-- like when theyâre all laughing and Will tries to shout at Mike for his joke or something and itâs just. a very quiet rasp of nothing. Itâs a learning curve to figure out how to make sure Willâs voice is never lost or completely drowned out. They get like a tapping signal-- someone double taps the table theyâre around or hits the floor lightly-- if they start to leave the range of Willâs voice. Immediately, they all drop back down but donât miss a beat. Theyâre all super understanding and accommodating, of course, but sometimes theyâre just really rowdy and loud.
