Communication alumni filmmakers Raymond Velasquez, Aldo Sandoval, and Melissa Hernandez areĀ making the newsĀ as theirĀ COMM 101TĀ Media Activism project entitledĀ Chicano ParkĀ is being featured in theĀ Frontera Filmmaker ShowcaseĀ at this yearās San Diegoās Latino Film and Arts Festival, March 12-22, 2020. The 27th edition of the festival will take place from March 12-22, 2020 at the AMC Fashion Valley 18 and Digital Gym Cinema. The festival will present over 160 films from Latin America, the United States, and Spain. Audiences will have the rare opportunity to meet filmmakers and actors from all over the world.Ā The Latino Film Festival Opening Night PartyĀ will take place on Thursday, March 12, at Bread & Salt. The Closing Night Awards Ceremony & ConcertĀ will take place on Saturday, March 23 at the Music Box San Diego. The film entitled,Ā Chicano Park: From the Mind of a Conceptual ArtistĀ has already won Best Documentary in our Annual Media Production ShowcaseĀ 2019 prompting them to share their work on a wider scale. Raymond Velasquez, Aldo Sandoval, and Melissa Hernandez were inspired in part by theĀ 1988 Chicano Park documentary directed by Marilyn MulfordĀ and the famous artwork displayed in thisĀ San Diego landmark. They presented a history of the park from the perspective ofĀ muralist Salvador TorresĀ and screened the film on Aug. 18 atĀ La Bodega GalleryĀ in Barrio Logan.
