Hyde Street lies at the heart of San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood. Hop off the historic Hyde Street cable car and wander up-and-down to find quaint sidewalk cafes, mouth-watering bistros, and even a throwback Swenson's Ice Creamery. It's just adorable. In a moment, it feels like you've stepped out of the hustle and bustle of the city and into a modern-day fairytale. U-Lee, a Cantonese & Mandarin restaurant, does not belong here if you're going on looks alone. Although the setting is unimposing, the service is friendly and the quarters are tight -- so for more than one reason, you feel welcomed & comfortable pretty quickly. The food is amazing, the portions are plentiful and you can't beat the prices. We started out with the best Pork pot stickers I've ever had. They're the size of my fist, stuffed with ground pork that's seasoned to perfection, and cooked to just the right amount of golden crispy on the outside.We moved onto a smorgasbord pot of soup filled with everything from shrimp to tofu and mushrooms to spinach. It was good, especially with a half tablespoon of hot sauce, and especially if you're looking for something warm your belly. Our main dishes were great, too -- broccoli & beef served with fluffy white rice and Chicken chow mein -- and between the four of us hungry ladies, we did not even get through half of each plate. Perhaps the most surprising part of our meal came at the end when our server presented the check. A whopping $33.25 for an appetizer, pot of soup, two huge entrees and a pot of tea. After adding a fair tip, we walked away having had a delicious, filling and out-of-the-ordinary lunch for $10 each. Success!
