Its hilarious that Typhan played such an important role in Emily Jane becoming the angry powerful god that she is, becoming THE personification of Mother Nature, not only be teaching her how to control the forces of the cosmos, but also by "raising" her after he found her lost and alone, naming her his daughter, making her fight the people who attacked her home and murdered her family, and never noticing the buildup to her eventual breakdown, and then casting her out once her symptoms of trauma start manifesting.
And he's nothing to her. 10 years of her life, giving her the skills she becomes known for, essentially creating her, and he is replaced immediately in her heart by Sandy.
Typhan didn't love Emily Jane, he just wanted to be the father and savior to a child and didn't care that it was slowly tearing her mind and heart to pieces.
Its interesting how Emily Jane and Jack react to being saved and imprinting on their saviors. Manny saves Jack the way a first responder saves a drowning victim, and Jack doesn't understand why this person he met in the back of an ambulance doesn't also take him home and adopt him. Emily Jane meets a coast guard as she's lost adrift at sea and she wants to board the first ship back home but the guy locks her up in a lighthouse and doesn't understand why she might be mad about that.
