They should also maybe understand that US Cavalry doctrine bled into the development of the US Armored Corps and US armored doctrine: the standard Sherman was never meant to go into combat with heavy German armor. That job was supposed to be reserved for specially reserved tank destroyer regiments, using towed anti-tank guns, artillery, and 'tank destroyer' variants, which were held behind the lines, but those were largely phased out by mid-war due to ever-increasing manpower shortages.
