Fan Art for The Charioteer by Mary Renault
In honor of the fantastic r/Romancelandia discussion guest author Buddy Read with Alexis Hall, I designed a Type Map for this incredible book.
It's hard to write something simple about this book, but it's a historical queer romance published in 1953 about post-Dunkirk WWII in 1940. There is a love triangle between Laurie, Ralph & Andrew and examines some incredible themes during a time when it was illegal to be queer. Renault's prose, however, is the complete stand-out. Absolutely gorgeous turns of phrase that have so much mystery and layered meaning and different interpretations. I had to read the book twice to understand what was happening, but I imagine I will read it again. I absolutely loved it.
