Yeah, exactly. I’ve been doing hard manual labour my entire life, and I’m good at it, but I want nothing more than to sit in a comfortable chair for the rest of my life. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar or trying to prove something.
The thing is, a ton of reactionary discourse is exclusively devoted to fetishizing manual labour that they themselves do not and cannot perform. It’s the whole Mike Rowe thing, where we had 10+ years of a jumped-up TV presenter with a theatre degree looming over actual workers to tell people at home, at 5 million dollars a year, about what heroes they were while never once advocating for their material interests in any serious way. He has, however, spent a lot of time and money on behalf of their bosses.
He’ll go on TV or on podcasts to talk big shit, but never once mentions that welders in the US make less than 25 dollars an hour, to do a job where your life expectancy is 60 years old.
