In 1440 the young William Douglas, 6th Earl of Douglas and his brother were invited to dine with the ten year-old King James II of Scotland. The dinner was organised by Sir William Crichton of Clan Crichton. Known as the Black Dinner, a black bull’s head, the symbol of death, was brought in. After the dinner the Douglas chiefs were dragged out to Castle Hill, given a mock trial and beheaded.
That young William Douglas, 6th Earl of Douglas just happens to be our Gail’s 2nd cousin 17x removed. He was only 16 years old at the time of his murder. His brother David was under 5. They were both murdered in front of the 10 year old King James II of Scotland, himself Gail’s 16x great granddad. GoT isn’t just fiction, it’s her family history.
