As a recent college graduate, I am currently at a cross-roads that I feel like many twenty-somethings can relate to. I went to college because that is what I was told to do. Sure, I had a passion for learning about politics and enjoyed thinking I was going to be some big shot lawyer like I have seen in Suits.. But the harsh reality is no one tells you is that not going to college is okay and sometimes may work in your favor. 

I changed my major from communications, to criminal justice, to psychology, and then FINALLY settled down with the idea of political science in my sophomore year at college and thinking it would be best for me to move home and save money at a community college. I have now arrived at the point in my life where I have a degree, and I am applying to jobs I think I am qualified for (when in reality I have no idea) and just get a ton of rejection letters. From entry level positions. What is this crap? Is this really what I paid $35,000 for?

But then I realized that maybe the issue was that I was applying to jobs that I was qualified for then decided I didn't want, and the jobs that I am interested in I have absolutely no experience in. Who goes to college and gets a degree in politics then decides they want to work in social media or being a personal assistant for people in the entertainment business? And how can I get hired in a field like this with absolutely no experience?

If I would have taken the time to explore my true interests sooner, I feel like I would have a better grasp on reality. I have felt like I am at a fork in the road trying to decide what way is the best way to go forward that I inevitably end up going backwards. I am a college graduate who just got hired to serve tables at a sports bar because I feel too intimidated to try anything else in my life right now. I want to be confident in the career I choose. But figuring out how to get there is the hardest thing in the world.

Here is to having a degree and not knowing what the heck to do with it.
