Let’s break this down. “I don’t shape the human race.” Really? Because all those times that you talked with great inventors and scientists, including the fourth doctor mentioning that you talked to Isaac Newton about gravity, surely does not count…… yeah you’re full of crap.

“ you can get it wrong on your own.“ But this doesn’t count. Unlike the 456 incident which was humanity‘s fault and the doctor did not know about it so it made sense that he didn’t get involved. This is something that he has dealt with previously and has done in the past. And the so-called ambassador who took over insert stupid lame name here who also had a lame name said basically he was going to flood the surface of the Earth. Which made me scratch my head when I heard it on Tumblr cause all I can think of was “excuse me? The Silurians?…. They’re still underground and hibernating. You are aware of that writers right? Not to mention that there are Zygons on this planet who would object to rising sea levels…. And let’s not forget that the sea devils attacked humanity first? Is everyone gonna forget that in the 1970s and in the 1800s the sea devils rise from the sea and tried to conquer humanity? And the Doctor was involved both times.”

And that is the problem with the entire spinoff. It assumes that the sea devils have no previous connection to the greater universe when they have. And if they were supposedly trying to make a Marvel cinematic universe sort of thing, the thing about it that sometimes is to its detriment is the fact that it is very interconnected. This thing feels so disconnected. You could literally just ignore it and virtually nothing would change. I mean some Marvel cinematic universe movies you can safely ignore because the plot threads are never followed up on, but as a whole, you kinda have to be aware of various things going on or you’re gonna be clueless as to what’s going on.

Now for Doctor Who that’s especially true because you have 62+ years and counting history to draw up on not to mention the expanding universe that’s not even counting the show. This entire show tries to be like torchwood and it fails apically. Unit is not torchwood. Unit is unilaterally shown to be the good guys. There are times where unit does questionable things but that’s usually when the doctor calls them out on it. And that’s not even getting into the fact that they basically stuck Kate Stewart a good example of a strong female character who did not need any man back up and showed no interest in a romantic love interest suddenly it’s a romantic love interest, and I’m supposed to feel bad when the guy gets shot. No, I’m not gonna feel bad for the guy getting shot because he’s nothing more than a prop. I mean, what do you know about the guy? Absolutely nothing aside from the fact that he’s a love interest in habits to work at unit. It’s kind of like Shawn Noble. You could literally replace those two characters I mentioned with anyone and the story would not change one iota.

And as for Barkley falling in love with the sea devil firstly yeah that is such a BS thing. Firstly, how the sea devils originally looked would be very awkward if you’re not into that sort of thing and the fact that they made them humanoid just screamed that they knew this. Secondly he’s just recently divorced and has a kid and he abandoned both. Father of the year award. Yes, let’s abandon your child to go be with someone you’ve only known for a week at most. Yeah, that’s gonna end out well. Not even mentioning the fact that they have sex in a very kind of way which makes no damn sense when you think about it biologically and yes, I’m bringing in biology but screw it if they wanna have a realistic take I’m going there.

And again they miss out on a prominent character who could’ve been a good ambassador instead of random guy that happened to work with Russell in the past. Petronelia Osgood. Even Chibnall had her be mentioned when she wasn’t on screen. RTD? Not even a mention you wouldn’t even know she existed in his mind. But she would’ve been the perfect candidate. She already represents the fragile peace between humanity and another alien species. Why not bring up her expertise? Oh right because that means that the white male lead wouldn’t get any prominent screen time. I forget RTD just loves putting white male leads in front of us and acted like they were the most important thing ever.

And that’s not getting into the fact that the happy ending supposedly is basically putting them on a reservation and washing their hands of the incident. None of the people who committed genocide are brought to trial or justice. They’re just kind of killed randomly on screen, and Kate does nothing to disassemble them in the background. Oh yeah, and she threatened her therapist, which is incredibly unprofessional and just so unlike Kate that I want to go into the screen and shake everyone and say, who the hell are you because these aren’t the characters that you were?!

So yes, I may have gotten these summaries from people that have watched the series, but I’m not gonna spend any time effort or anything on watching this crappy spinoff. I get the impression that this will be like the Class of this time. You know that show? You don’t? Well, that’s probably because it was just badly written it with vastly unlikable characters and things that just didn’t make sense. Rather like this. It’s just unfortunately, unlike class, which had the decency to make up its own unique characters and situations this tried to take pre-established characters and stick them into crap.

Everyone has criticised 8 episodes per season, it’s way too low and it’s coming off of the episode count having already been shortened 3 seasons prior from 12 to 10, and that again from 13 to 12. But we could’ve had 10 episode seasons, maintaining that Chibnall era standard (for what it’s worth). 10 episodes wouldn’t have fixed any of the big issues people have had, those remain in the writing itself which can be traced back to RTD1, but that’s 4 extra episodes with Ncuti Gatwa, HALF A SEASON AS IS! And RTD would have an extra episode, likely a special of some sort, to write an actual ending to keep “The Disney+ Era” self contained to some degree maybe.

Also the explanation for the Doctor not showing is incredibly vague and lame to max… because it makes no damn sense. This isn’t a human event. This isn’t a human event this is an event with previous people that you were fought against the 70s and in the 1800s with the pirate queen. This is definitely your wheel house. So this whole thing about the Doctor not being involved in this plot makes no damn sense because preventing the world being flooded is kind of his thing. RTD stay away from Doctor Who.

Thirdly and most importantly, I must say this… evidently there are some that think that this is actually better than what he did in Doctor Who. Which means that even to them, it’s clear that RTD was putting more effort into this and again I pointed out where he ripped off several elements from much better projects and somehow this is better than his effort in Doctor Who. What the hell?

Fourthly because I’m being petty tides idea of getting rid of humans and yes again lame name there. Is to flood the surface of the Earth. Wasn’t that the climax of Aquaman and now that I think about it didn’t Aquaman make the point about plastics with the lands, throwing the plastic onto the shore? And again him saying “we are going to flood the land so that way the humans will not be able to flourish.“ Excuse me, your cousins who are underground are gonna have a few words with you nitwit. Did RTD just forget about the Silurians?!

Edit: also there’s the whole thing about this severance virus that they pretty much sic on people wiping them out in a genocidal fashion. Excuse me, but you mean to tell me that the Doctor, the person who hates genocide and wants it to never happen again just kind of sits on their hands and says “oh that’s OK humans you can do it.“ When the third Doctor railed against the brigadier when he committed genocide against their terrestrial cousins the Silurians. RTD have you ever paid attention to the series?!
