New Chapter!!!
I figured it was time to post another chapter. Yes, it is Hitaru Morpher. Yes, it is a *slight* continuation of Twanny Nyck. But I chopped a current chapter in half. So there might be a bit of a cliffhanger.
New Story Time!!!
Twanny/Nyck
Ch. 2
“And remember to have a very good day at school today!” I kept my smile up for a couple more seconds as the camera kicked off. I then dropped my papers and laid my head on the desk for a moment. The only thoughts running through my head were those that related to Nyck. Whether it was that first day of meeting him and the events that followed the same evening or his thoughts plaguing me all day. I couldn’t escape him. I heard a knock at the door and glanced up to see the object of my torment (and passion) walking in.
“Hey Twik. Done recording?” I nodded, sitting straight.
“What’s up?” He grinned sheepishly and hefted his bag with one hand.
“More tutoring help, please. Ms. Uthe has us overloaded with new equations and you know I can barely understand even simple algebra.” I nodded before standing from my seat to walk to his side.
“How did your last test turn out?” He slid his bag off for a moment as we walked out and dug in it to find a paper.
“I got a D. Half of the equations were I worked longhand were wrong.” I took the paper from him to look at the wronged answers and felt myself smiling a little.
“That was my fault, actually. You had me so distracted with other things while I was trying to teach you that I taught you wrong.” I handed him back the paper before opening the door to my room. “So we’ll try again. How about it?” I couldn’t help but smile a little as a picture popped up of our single night of fun. “Now now, behave yourself.”
“Sorry. Perverted brain and telepathy don’t mix at all.” I definitely agreed. “On the bed?” And there was another picture. I dropped my bag by the door and looked up to see one of his sleeves pressed to his nose.
“I’ll re-teach the algebra while we sit on the bed, yes.” I learned within the next day of meeting him that I had to be extremely specific sometimes. “Would you like to sit down first?” If I tried to “shorthand” certain things, he would take it as dirty and I would be assaulted with pictures. He dug in his bag to get out a couple of pencils and a pad of paper to go with his test before sitting cross-legged on the bed.
“Thank you for re-teaching the problems, Twik. I’m grateful.” I nodded before sitting next to him, one leg tucked under me and the other hanging over the edge.
“Shall we start with the first one you got wrong?” He nodded, handing me the test and settling the pad comfortable on his leg. “Okay. It’s similar to the first problem we worked on your homework. Twenty-six plus nineteen equals x minus thirteen.”
“Add twenty-six and nineteen, right?” I nodded. “Comes out to forty-five.” He pointed with the eraser of his pencil to the worked equation on the paper in front of me.
“Work it longhand anyways. I want to make sure you do the math properly.” His eyes rolled behind his glasses before he added the two numbers. “Good. Now, here’s where I led you off last time. X minus thirteen is the same number, forty-five, right?” He nodded. “So instead of subtracting the two, you’re actually supposed to add them.” He nodded, writing the numbers out before adding them.
“So x equals fifty-eight.” I nodded, resisting the urge to pat him on the back. “What’s the next one?”
“X’s and Y’s together. X plus fourteen equals Y minus seven. Nearly exact to the homework once more. Again, I led you astray.” I glanced up to see him once more pressing his sleeve to his nose. A moment later I knew why, and shook my head. “At least you’re getting better at trying to block the fantasies from getting out, so to speak. Now then. Underneath, the value of X is given. See?” I pointed it to him and he leaned over to see before nodding. “X equals seven. So add seven and fourteen.” He nodded once more before dropping the sleeve and writing out the problem.
“Twenty-one. And to find Y, we add seven to that?” I nodded, glad that he was learning on his own. “So Y equals twenty-eight, yeah?” He looked so much like a child showing a parent a new drawing and hoping for praise. “Yeah. You got it.” I swear I saw him mouth “Score!” to himself before glancing at the test to work the next problem. I laid the sheet on the bed between us and laid on my back to stretch out.
“Hey Twik?” I folded my arms under my head and closed my eyes.
“Yeah?” I felt him shift his weight so he could face me a little better.
“The other day, when you came to talk to me about what my problem was, I remember you saying something.” I nodded. I remember the day well enough myself. “You said...you said you were “shit at romantics”. Were you telling the truth?” At the hurt in his voice I opened my eyes and quickly sat up. He was looking at the floor. Not a good sign.
“Nyck, please look at me.” He shook his head before bringing his legs up to his chest. “When I said that, I was partially telling the truth. In a “normal” setting, most people will wine and dine you just to get into your pants. My species has a very limited life span. These metal plates?” I showed him the back of my hand. “They grow inside our bodies as well. The average lifespan of a Guvnicca is thirty years. We live life to the absolute fullest, because we know we’ll die in our prime. I had hoped to scare you off so I’d have time to convince myself I wasn’t interested.
“I really do like you, Nyck. I guess I thought you’d be overwhelmed if I brought you flowers every time I saw you in the hall, or took you to a romantic-ish setting every evening.” I could only do so well while on school grounds. “We can take up to five years or more to woo someone, Nyck. I’d like to spend twenty with you.” I managed to free one of his hands and held it in mine. I figured he was working out the math in his head.
“You’d be thirty-eight, then.” His voice was full of doubt.
“And it still wouldn’t be enough time. I want eternity, but I know I can’t have it.” He glanced at me, his eyes shiny with unshed tears.
“Why not remove the plates then? With surgery or something?” I shook my head, slowly.
“Surgery is an extremely rare success. The plates grow over our lungs and fuse to major blood vessels. We simply accept our fate as it is.” I tugged softly on his hand, and he dropped his legs to move a little closer. “I’m elated that I met you, but cursed at the same time. Elated that I get to spend time with you, cursed that it won’t be enough.” Out of nowhere he lunged at me, wrapping me in a hug as we toppled backwards onto the bed.
“Any time at all with you is better than none at all, Twik.” His words came out muffled against my chest, but I heard them clearly enough.
“I would risk a thousand surgeries, even if it meant one more day. If there was any way, Nyck, I would take it.” I gently took his glasses off so they wouldn’t break before wrapping my arms around him. One hand smoothed up and down his back.
“Hitaru might be able to help you...” His voice was yet more muffled, his face buried against my chest. “She could morph as you and maybe tell where the plates are. Find some that could be removed without major damage to the vessels.” I pressed a soft kiss to his forehead.
“It might add days instead of years, but it could work. I’ll talk to her.” I felt my shirt tighten against my chest as something made a wet spot. I felt Nyck’s shoulders shaking and I knew he was crying. I wrapped my arms tighter around him, holding him as close as I could.
“And if she finds a way to help? Would you have the su-surgery?” His voice cracked on the last word. I nodded without even pausing to think.
“That and many more, Nyck. Most debunk the idea of love at first sight. I have proof right on top of me.” I felt him burrow yet closer and smiled.
“You’ll never leave me before your time?” He could be such a pessimist at times. I pressed my lips to his forehead once more before speaking.
“I’m trying to say I love you, Nyckolas. And you’re talking of me dying. I have years yet before that happens. Let me spend them in peace. Let me spend them in your arms, where I’m happiest.” I felt his arms tighten around me.
“If you die before you hit forty, I’ll bring you back just to kill you myself.” I chuckled at his promise.
“So be it. I plan to die of old age. Which is at least fifty.” There had never been a Guvnicca to even reach thirty-seven before, much less fifty. “Which gives me many more years to be with my love.” I curled a finger under his chin to make him look at me. The green of his eyes was always hidden behind those glasses of his. “You should see about getting some contacts. Look into the information on them.” He ducked his head and started to silently laugh.
“Were the puns unintended, or are you trying to make me laugh?” It took a moment for it to register that I had made a couple of puns without even trying.
“A little mix of both, really.” I brought his head back up before moving down to press my lips against his. When he pressed back, I wisely pulled away. “I’ll speak to Hitaru and see if she can help. I can’t guarantee anything though, understood?” He nodded, leaning down to nuzzle my neck. I couldn’t help but smile.
“So long as she helps, and we find a possibility.” I chuckled softly before tightening my arms once more. I didn’t dare tell him that I already had plates that started fusing to my lungs. I didn’t have the heart. I would simply take what time I had with him, and be glad that I had it.
