It was supposed to just be a simple nighttime walk meant to clear Jack's head. He'd been enjoying the serenity and the scenery around him, but that joy only paused when he suddenly realized how familiar his surroundings were, causing a solemn sigh to leave him.
Of course. He always found his way back here eventually.
It wasn't a place that hinted at anything remarkable. A simple road with a quaint little park and a pristine lake visible in the distance. Jack could still remember bringing Mjoll and Kasumi here when they were younger.
But even with the time and repairs, nothing could completely hide the evidence that something terrible had happened here. Some cracks on the pavement, a dented roadsign that was slightly bent, scorch marks from what looked like blasts of powerful magic.
He could still remember it all so clearly, like it happened yesterday.
A hand brushed through his hair as he sat down on a nearby bench, leaning on his cane slightly for support. He should've brought fresh flowers. The ones he'd placed here last time had likely been blown away by the wind.
Jack simply sat in silence as he gazed out in front of him, blinking a few times to try and fight back tears.
"I miss you, darling..." he murmured softly, as if she could still hear him.
