MOTIVATIONS. fear. he wants power (and right now? that means unleashing his inner wolf & breaking that curse, let's go), he wants authority, he wants to maintain control, all because at his core klaus is afraid of having anything less, of being vulnerable and hurt and isolated, of being cast back into the role of victim. the majority of his actions and paranoia stem from this. (notable soft spot: his siblings. under it all, if they were truly thrown into harm's way? he'd do and risk a lot to prevent their deaths.)

DIVERGENCES. dean is my pookie bear and largely kept the same outside of what i've illustrated a bit in his app: greater emphasis on his faith (or there lack of) and especially on his sexuality. more specifically the fact that he is very much a closeted bisexual man, even in spite of the culture of toxic masculinity he and his brother no doubt grew up in, and which helped fuel dean's case of internalized homophobia. rip. ykw while we're here lemme point out that he is also the victim of parentified eldest child syndrome and parental neglect (plus imo at least emotional abuse from john?), let's be honest, and pretty gruff + rough around the edges regardless of what his occasional charm or quick wit might otherwise suggest. that's not even touching on the extreme co-dependence he exhibits with his brother or the intense self-loathing or self-objectification from being raised to essentially be a caretaker and daddy's little soldier lol?? all in all he's a pretty heavy character underneath it all so heads up!!

DIVERGENCES. obviously he's escaped prison world much sooner in thanks to one specific bloody instance of a sleepwalking episode by bonnie bennett, sorry 'bout it! i also don't shy away from the mental health consequences of kai's upbringing and the trauma that absolutely stemmed from it. he bounces frequently back and forth between pretending he's the unfeeling killer he was raised to be versus being the unloved broken kid he's always been. remember: he's the product of pretty horrific abuse at the hands of a cult and he's a psychotic child murderer; these things can in fact co-exist.

charlie swan is a townie through and through. and though he might be happy to call mystic falls his home, he didn't always envision himself planting his roots here. an only child, charlie spent most of his childhood over at billy black's, running around with him, quil atara iv, & harry clearwater. his childhood was a happy one, but he always pictured himself going to his parents' alma mater: washington state.

demetri spent his early years in greece, a skilled hunter by his mid-teens. he did so for the needs of his family rather than enjoyment, but he was fond of the solitude it afforded him. not a soul commented on it as long as demetri continued to provide.
