#tvf tripling

I recently watched Tripling Season 2 and I had all mixed feelings? Tripling S1 also then had left a mixed feeling. There are elements I liked and disliked then and now but at the same time, it makes you laugh like anything. 

First, when I heard about the names of the characters, all I could do was hum the song “Chandan sa badan, Chanchal, Chitvan, dheere se tera ye muskaana...”, because my Dad loves that song and I have grown up listening to it. But much to my surprise their parents names are Chinmay and Charu (also starting with Ch) which was a nice detail.

Backstory - S1

Chandan Sharma, recently divorced, returns to Mumbai from US(?) to meet his brother, Chitvan, a DJ. They meet in a toilet. Chitvan, who has bought a Tata Tiago (the sponsor of the series) is running from the car’s EMI collectors (he has gone to jail or something? I don’t remember exactly) and drags Chandan to Jodhpur in his car, to meet their sister, Chanchal, who is married into a royal family and is supposedly pregnant. Chanchal reveals to her siblings that she is not actually pregnant and has lied due to family pressure. Following the fight between the siblings and Chanchal's husband, Pranav, (the famous “MadaFaqa” song, “Baba, you are beautiful” ,and the “Jijaji Baanj Hain?” from Chitvan) they unceremoniously leave the palace. Chandan, Chanchal and Chitvan leave Jodhpur to hit the road. On their journey they find themselves lost in the desert. They meet a group of Israeli girls who steal their car. On the road to find their stolen car, the siblings reach Bathinda, where they fight with the local car stealer and manage to reclaim their car. They fight among themselves (don’t remember why?) and travel separately to reach their parents’ home in Manali, to sort out the mess they are in. After all, “Crisis ke time pe family kaam aati hai.”

There are siblings who are sometimes alike but that is not the case, most of the time. The characters Chandan, Chitvan and Chanchal are quite messed up and are so so different from each other. They do not regularly keep in touch like for years and months (which baffles me a lot) but when they get together, sort any mess. I planted two Hibiscus rosa-sinensis flower plants when I was in 9th standard. Hibiscus, doesn’t need seeds. I casually broke branches of the same plant and just placed them straight in the land (black soil). As it was rainy season, they sustained and grew well. But one of them grew really big and one remained small. The flowers of the plants were red but had different flowering capacities in spite of the same care, water and environment. Thus I started taking care of them separately. This is exactly similar to how parents raise their children equally, but children are different from each other and thus after sometime, they need to take personalized approach and we understand and get habituated to it. This element was beautifully shown in S1. Initially Chandan is so apprehensive of Chits’ laid back habits but despite the differences the siblings have gone through everything together. 

Coming to S2, it was not as impressive as S1 was(?), but at the same time was really good in some elements. My mom always has a habit of generalising things quite easily. She always tells me that S2′s are not always good. I do tell her that there are cases which prove her wrong, but sometimes I do feel like she is right. After all, nothing can beat experience!

It has been 6 months and we see that Chandan has jotted down the previous encounter of the siblings and their road trip under the name “Tripling” which has made him quite famous and a movie is being made inspired by it. And deja vu, Chandan again meets Chitvan (who is now off alcohol and DJ-ing) in a toilet and is shocked to see Chitvan’s son, Chaitanya(Cheetah). A confused Chandan, later gets to know that the baby is Chitvan’s girlfriend/partner, Sheetal Gujral’s son. She is a human rights activist and is born wealthy. Chitvan accompanies Chandan to a book festival in Jaipur and then starts the chaos. They get kidnapped and are tortured. Pranav is missing and Chanchal is now a politician all of a sudden. Now the search for Pranav is on and the plot takes a lot of turns (which are quite illogical and lame?). There is one childhood flashback which is adorable, which perhaps explains the siblings and their relation with road trips
