Bonenzo was tragically beautiful but only partially satisfying.

I loved that Enzo was cemented as Bonnie’s greatest and purest love. Enzo loves Bonnie so much he would give her up over and over again so that she could get the chance to live and flourish in life. He knows that Bonnie living her life to the fullest might mean she falls in love again. Maybe Bonnie falls in love again and marries and has kids and grandkids, and maybe as all this happens she even forgets him or their love becomes just a memory for her. But that’s okay to Enzo because she got to be happy and cherished, she got to travel and create a wonderful life for herself and that’s all that matters to him. Even if he has to watch it all unfold from afar at least her story gets to continue and hopefully becomes as beautiful as the life he pictured for the two of them.

He knows Bonnie wanted to be with him and no matter how many times she tried to make herself okay with death for an afterlife with him he wouldn’t let her. He made the choice again at the beginning of the episode to let her go, a choice that he didn’t deserve to have to make since he would still be alive but he did it anyway. This man was so content with Bonnie’s love he’s at peace in the afterlife alone and not once hesitated to push Bonnie to keep loving knowing he could still have her if she just stayed in the dimension with him. All he needed was Bonnie Bennett in his life to finally find the peace that alluded him in life for years.

This is the kind of selfless and pure love Bonnie has always deserved to have. The most selfless character always deserved the most selfless love and she got that with Enzo. The character who spent so much of her life giving every part of herself away for the sake of others got to have someone give up every part of themselves for her. Enzo is going to spend decades in solitude still in love with Bonnie, waiting for her, watching her live and be happy. For someone like Bonnie, who has tried to make the same sacrifice for other people more than once in her 8 year existence as a character that means the world to me.

That’s why bonenzo is and was beautiful. That’s ehh it outshines every other ship on this show for me and why I’m partially content with the way their story ended.

My small amount of discontent is still there despite everything just said for the following reasons:

1. narratively Enzo’s death wasn’t necessary and cruel to Bonnie and Enzo, but especially Bonnie.

2. It’s nonsensical that they established several mythology points about Cade and these created dimensions, and yet none of them applied to Bonnie and her dimension. There is still no legitimate explanation as for why Bonnie couldn’t bring Enzo back from her dimension

3. Bonnie stopped hellfire, broke a curse that was said to have no loophole whatsoever and that was said would cause her death if she used magic to undo it…..but couldn’t use magic to bring Enzo back somehow.

4. Ultimately, Bonnie deserved her happily ever after In the present with the man she loved. I like that Bonnie’s story is ended with her pledging to live life to the fullest and taking off for adventure and happiness. I like that I can imagine Bonnie happy with a husband and kids and reuniting with Enzo after living to see the age of 95. But as it stood, when the last second of the vampire diaries ticked away Bonnie was alone, Bonnie was leaving to begin a new journey alone. Even Caroline , who was also denied her great love, ended her story with her kids and Alaric. Bonnie ended hers with memories of a love she should have still had and a connection to a presence that can only watch her from afar. She deserved more than that. She deserved her French county wedding in the lavender field, she deserved to be able to wake up to Enzo every day for as long as she lived like she wanted. Bonnie told her grams that the life she always wanted was right in her grasp and yet it was still denied for reasons that just don’t hold up narratively.

if stefan isn’t dying, and we don’t know if he is, then why would steroline end? IF stefan is alive he’s going to be with his wife. 

Let’s pretend Stefan did die, why would Caroline uproot her entire life in MF with her twins, who have a father in this equation btw, to go to New Orleans to be with a man that she has never shown any romantic interest in and has rejected more than once? 

We have no idea if Klaus actually sends her a letter and what this hypothetical letter might contain. 

How does caroline potentially being alone mean she has an open endgame and is going to run to nola and be with Klaus? Caroline may very well stay alone and focus on her children if stefan dies, she could fall for some random guy later in in life. There are several other options for Caroline besides running off to New Orleans.

Also let’s not forget that Caroline has absolutely no part in TO’s season 4, she’s not even in the one crossover that they are having so how is that a part of Julie’s grand plan to leave an open endgame for caroline and make klaroline endgame? Is she supposed to just suddenly pop up in the season 5 that’s not even guaranteed to be happening at the moment? 

Also, Klaus doesn’t actually have to have a romantic endgame. I personally would love it if klayley happened, but Klaus doesn’t have to have a romantic endgame to complete his character’s story. Romance is not vital to his character at all. Klaus has repeatedly said and shown that his FAMILY is his ultimate happiness in life. The only women who are vital to Klaus’s life long term are Hope, Rebekah, and Hayley. Klaus very well could stay single in this next season, hell he’s actually been single the entire time he’s been on TO since he was never in a relationship with cami, never even slept with her, and only made romantic advances towards her just prior to her death. In the meantime Klaus has carried on sexual relationships with two other woman, Genevieve and Aurora. Cami being dead and caroline possibly being out there in the world as a widow doesn’t mean Klaus is going to suddenly get in a relationship with Caroline and spend the rest of his immortal life with her. Klaus could form a sexual relationship with another random like in season 1, or focus all his energy on picking up the pieces of the life he’s missed out on for the last 5 years. Both of those things are more likely to happen to him and more in character for klaus than randomly having a woman who was never more than a temporary infatuation at a very different time in his life suddenly pop up and be his epic love for all eternity. 

as for your last part about what’s stopping Julie from making klaroline endgame...several things actually....most of which come down to logistics, logistics that Julie has made more difficult to overcome.

1. TVD is ending, which means the entire ship would have to occur exclusively on TO...which has already completed filming for it’s 4th season and contains zero klaroline scenes. Caroline isn’t even in the one crossover of the season, alaric goes to nola instead while Caroline continues to pay nola dust. 

2. People seem to forget that caroline actually has 2 children and a baby daddy to consider in her life. She can’t just up and abandon her children and move to new orleans on a whim. Alaric would have to either agree to move to nola with her and the kids, which isn’t gonna happen since he hates the originals, or he has to agree to let her take them away from him, those kids are his entire world so that’s not happening either. In order to make KC happen Julie would have to figure out how to incorporate 2 additional children into a show that already struggles to incorporate the 1 child that’s central to the main character’s existence. She would have to also figure out how to incorporate two additional adult characters added to the cast list when they already have a hard time juggling the characters they have on the show right now. Adding Alaric and Caroline and the twins would be a logistical nightmare, a nightmare that no writer would take on just for the sake of making a twitter famous ship happen just for the hell of it after one of the character’s stories has been completed already.

3. The time lines have completely diverged between the two shows, sure they could do a flash forward, but they would have to somehow incorporate that flash forward into TO and then explain how it all fits. When you only have a 13 episode season it’s asinine to spend any time trying to fit a timeline from a show that’s over into your show that’s still ongoing. 

4. Candice would have to agree to sign on for a potential season 5 of TO, which again isn’t guaranteed. She has dedicated her life to TVD for 8 years. Once TVD wraps why would she stick her life in limbo for months to potentially sign on to a show that’s going to be over soon to play a LI and be a part of a ship that she actually doesn’t even like. Matt Davis, who just got a new show btw, would also have to potentially sign on as well since like I said, it’s pretty impossible for caroline to go to nola without her kids and if they come then their father is coming as well unless he’s dead. 

5. Caroline Forbes is a character from the vampire diaries. Her story has always been about Mystic Falls, her friends there, her family there. The mystic falls story is coming to an end. With that means the end of Caroline Forbes as a character. In order to make KC happen they would have to rob caroline of her ending on the show that’s been her entire existence for 8 seasons or they would have to end her story...then randomly decide to re-open it away from everything and everyone that was so vital to her existence for her entire life. Logistically it doesn’t make sense.

I think that they both might be immortal. Bonnie could still be immortal because of her dimension she created like Cade and if enzo came back then he would be back as a vampire. Either they both get to be immortal or Enzo is immortal while Bonnie is mortal. 

As far as kids. I think they would adopt. Bonnie is very caring and Enzo has a thing about being abandoned. I could totally see them deciding to adopt one or two kids who have been abandoned in the foster care system and giving them a loving and protective family. 

My favorite future for Bonnie at the moment is one where she is a teacher for witches at Alaric and Caroline’s school for supernatural children. She has been great with the twins and her Bennett line has a history if being some amazing mentors in magic. Ayanna Bennett taught Esther Mikaelson almost everything she knew about magic 1000 years ago before she turned her children. I think Bonnie’s grandmother was a professor of the occult in MF. I would love to see Bonnie carry on the Bennett legacy but being the Dean of Magic at the school for the supernatural. she would be a great mentor and I think she would find a lot of fulfillment in helping other kids better understand their gift and channel it in productive ways instead of making some of the same mistake she made on her journey. 

I think that Enzo would be the most adorable stay at home dad while Bonnie works at the school lol I also think he could help with some stuff at the school as well. I could see him perhaps teaching history. 

I don’t see why stefan being a human is an issue either, especially when stefan and caroline have already tackled the subject on screen. Caroline admitted that she wasn’t sure how things would work out after the cure but she clearly still loved stefan. Stefan expressed doubts to damon but damon reassured him that he could have his happiness despite all the obstacles that Stefan keeps placing in front of himself. Stefan and Caroline both worked through their feelings on his change before Stefan proposed for the second time, and caroline still accepted his proposal and they still got married to each other. If it was going to be a factor then it would have already been one and they wouldn’t have gotten married in the first place. 

This exact same topic was also discussed with Bonnie and Enzo. Before enzo died they discussed their future and Bonnie decided that she wouldn’t turn for enzo so their plan was to be human together. When that option was taken away from them because of the plan to stop Cade they both agreed that it didn’t matter. Enzo said he would love bonnie just as she was now and when she’s old and grey. They both were content with the fact that they wouldn’t get forever with each other and they wouldn't be able to live a normal human lifespan together but they would have decades of wonderful and fulfilling love with each other and ultimately that’s all they needed. Nothing else mattered besides their love for each other. It would be painful for enzo to watch bonnie die one day but 60 years with bonnie, 60 years with the love of his life is better than none at all. 

At the end of the day love is what truly matters, love is what can overcome it all for these characters. It wasn’t a surprise that Stefan and Caroline still decided to get married even after stefan turned human because they truly love each other and nothing can change that, especially not something like human vs supernatural. 

Your other examples are also really good examples of ships that were going to continue to move forward despite one being human (I have different thoughts on klaus/cami but that’s neither here nor there). You omitted one relationship tho.....

I find it odd that none of the “steroline can’t work because stefan is human” people  don’t see any issue with Damon and Elena. When Elena wakes up she’s going to be human. Stefan took the cure so damon can on longer become a human with her which means he will stay a vampire. No one thinks that they can’t work this way at all, no one seems to think that elena and damon are just going to abandon each other because Damon is going to be a vampire. We all assume that Damon still has no intention of letting Elena go after he’s held on to her through it all for years and Elena won’t let Damon go either since she fell in love with him as a vampire and it clearly doesn’t make a difference to her. 

actually she wasn’t right about katherine/vicki interrupting the wedding.... Katherine didn’t even show up and it was matts mom not vicki that interrupted Damon’s best man speech. She had all the details about matt’s mom completely wrong and didn’t even know she was there, instead she had all of those actions being vicki’s actions and vicki didn’t so shit but ring the bell for 20seconds at the very end of the episode. Damon’s speech being interrupted was also already spoiled by the other account, as was the bamon dance. They just repeated those two spoilers on their own page and tossed vicki in the mix knowing she was showing up (it was already spoiled by some bts pics). 

The spoiler page also didn’t spoil the wedding...the ORIGINAL spoiler page confirmed that with scripts and extra details. The second page with all the latest speculation didn’t post that at all. Like I said they also weren’t the ones who originally spoiled the bamon dance and the reception being interrupted. That was spoiled weeks before. The very first spoiler posted on that page was actually about alaric and caroline and the school....which has already been revealed in the episode the week before so it wasn’t a spoiler at all. 

They also apparently aren’t right about Bonnie dying. They said bonnie’s magic overwhelms her and she dies. Bonnie passes out because of the bell, not her magic and we already know Bonnie isn’t actually dead when we open the finale. She’s gonna be in the rest of the episode. 

where in her statement did it say she was giving the an open ended endgame? 

She actually specifically said they are going to acknowledge that the ship was a part of the show but do it without making any promises for the future. There is no future for klaroline, which is why they won’t even go as far as baiting them into thinking there is on. That’s not giving them an open ended endgame, that’s giving them a nod to their ship for all the noise they have made over the years and in the spirit of the series finale and moving on.
