its just like iwtv really elevated the source material. the changes it made were informed by the existing narrative and were in conversation with the original in a way that made it deeper and richer
and i definitely understand that the changes they made are per force going to spiral in a way that will make subsequent storylines further and further from the original. and im fine with that
but the narrative of tvl was just so secondary to the new elements. the basic ideas were there, but they were hinted at more than anything. the actual meat of them was entirely removed. youd have to have read the book to pick up on a lot of it because they barely showed any of it
as opposed to iwtv, where reading the book granted additional insight but wasnt necessary to grasp the beating heart of the story or the ideas it was trying to convey
and some of their decisions felt like they were made for the sole purpose of abridgement. so they could gloss over other things more easily. like marius' only scene. it played out like that because they werent willing to devote the time to any of the things that happened before it in lestats life.
i mean maybe im wrong, maybe theyve got a deep dive into lestats backstory planned for next season. i initially assumed they would go more in depth as the season went on (which obviously didnt happen) so maybe my timeframe was just off. maybe the plot relevant songs from the book will happen at the concert. but idk its not looking promising
