Prompt: Finding a Pet

Lucas liked animals. He grew up having a dog when he was younger, so Lucas was an expert at running around and caring for furry animals. He loved dogs. After moving out of his parent's house, Lucas has always wanted to get a dog of his own, but it never seemed like the right time. However, after moving in with his girlfriend of a year, finding a pet came across discussions a couple of times. 

And now here they are at the rescue shelter looking for a pet. Lucas thought they agreed on getting a dog, but now it seems like Makayla's eyes have set elsewhere. Makayla was currently holding a small turtle in her hands, and Lucas was not so impressed. A turtle? An actual turtle? Lucas would have settled for a cat, but a turtle? What was he going to do with a turtle? 

"We can name him Squirt like in Finding Nemo!" Makayla squealed with excitement. Lucas peered down at the small animal with raised eyebrows. The poor thing was already hiding in his shell. Lucas didn't think this was a good idea, and he was about to share his thoughts until he looked back at his girlfriend. 

"Come out of there, little squirt." She cooed as she peered inside the hole where his head was starting to peak out. Lucas smirked and held back a chuckle. He had to admit, the way she treated this turtle was cute. And at least with a turtle, he didn't have to worry about too much of a cleanup. Lucas cleared his throat, grabbing Makayla's attention. 

"Alright, let's go find Squirt a leash." Lucas laughed as Makayla's eyes widened with happy tears.
