I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently, and I know it’s a Silly thought, but uh.. how do the cats in warriors know about things like lions, leopards and tigers?
Like I know about the tale of Lionclan, Leopardclan, and Tigerclan, but that doesn’t explain how they know about them. Or about how they look like. They canonically live in a forest in the uk, so like.. how would they even come across one in the first place? Like, somebody had to have seen one to start the tale of Tigerclan and Lionclan and Leopardclan? Did they escape a zoo? Did the cats go to a zoo? That aside, how did they even know what to call them? Like, did they just inherently know the names Lion Leopard and Tiger or did the animals themselves tell them that’s what they’re called? If I where a cat I’d just assume that those where just, like, really big versions of me, not a separate species that needs its own name.
Speaking of names, why do they know the names for certain things and not for others? Like, they call the barn a barn, but Humans are Twolegs, and their houses are called twoleg-nests. They call house cats Kittypets. Kittypets. How do they know what a pet is? And like, cars are monsters, but how do they know what a monster is? Some herbs- most herbs- are called by their real life name, but as far as I know cats can’t read labels on plant seeds so how do they know what we call them? How did they learn how to use them, divine intervention? (No I have not read dawn of the clans in a while, why do you ask?) why is catmint called Catmint? I think catmint is a name exclusive to this book series- and I mean if juniper can keep its real name why don’t they just call it catnip?
Some cats names are just funny too. Like, how did you know that a lynx exists? Why did you name your baby after a being that I don’t think you should know exists? Onekit is funny to me. Did onewhisker have like, a sister who was named twokit that died? How did they come in contact with a pear? Because there’s a warrior with pear in their name, Say hi to Pearnose! How about Turtle, as in Turtle tail or Trutlecrawl- I think there was a turtlekit too if I’m not mistaken. Not as weird, but we never meet a turtle, so like.. where did that name come from? Same with things like primrose and swan. Like, they could be out there, but uh.. we never see them, so how do they know about them? When have the warrior cats ever seen an oat? Hi Woollytail. What is woolly? What does woolly mean to them? I don’t think they’ve seen a sheep. When have they ever seen a flax seed? Enter Flaxfoot.
I also like to think about sharp tooth. It’s really funny that they don’t know the name for a mountain lion/cougar/puma when they clearly know the names for so many other big cats. Like, ah yes that’s a tiger, lion, Sharp tooth, leopard- It’s just funny to me. Also, where did sharp tooth come from? Because he ain’t native to that region, and they aint usually entirely alone. Like yes, they are solitary animals, but they can have mates and kits, and are often in pairs during mating season, so why is he all alone? You’d think that they’d know of atleast one more sharp tooth that lives around here. Or like, one that lived before this one atleast.
I have so many other things I could talk about that I ruminate on often- also I know this is all stupid because it’s a childerens book series but it’s still funny to think about. Uh.. let me know if there’s other things yall think about. If this reaches anyone.
