Weekly Archive Picks
Some oldies but goodies from our library, every week, just for you.
Bluegrass: Tumbling Bones - Loving a Fool (2014)
These four young guys are bringing new life to bluegrass. They caught the attention of NPR and were featured on a Prairie Home Companion, and while they veer into hymnal and gospel styles, they keep traditional bluegrass alive with their harmonies. RT 1, 5, 8

General Format: Joywave - How Do You Feel Now? (2015)
Joywave blends electronic music with indie rock seamlessly and it’s some of my favorite summer music for that reason. It can also bring some 80’s vibes, which are always welcome. This is really fun to play on the radio. RT 1, 6, 8

Local: Ellie Herring - Kite Day (2013)
Lexington’s own Ellie Herring should be playing on WRFL 24/7 (or as much as the FCC will allow), just saying. This electronic/RPM stuff is amazing. RT 2, 3, 7

RPM: Gold Panda - Half of Where You Live (2013)
We just got Gold Panda’s latest release so why not reacquaint yourself with his previous work? He apparently started out cutting up and rearranging pop songs, which you can hear in his glitchy, chilled out solo tracks. Sidenote, “You” off of Lucky Shiner is one of my favorite songs. RT 1, 7, 10

Hip Hop: Death Grips - The Powers that B (2015)
Death Grips is always adventurous and pushing the limits of what we’d call “decent” (it’s basically all explicit), but despite that, I still really appreciate the work they do because of its unflinching dedication to pushing those boundaries. RT 1, 2, 4
