God does justice and rewards sooner or later both good and bad, explains Psalm 10. This Psalm continues the teachings of Psalm 1, the psalm of the two paths. The sensible man, who fears God, must understand that the prosperity and happiness of the wicked is brief and ephemeral, patience is the weapon of the wise man. Psalm 10 is divided into two parts, in the first part God is asked for just retribution to the wicked for their perversion, and the second part is dedicated to God's mercy for those who need his help. The Psalm begins by explaining that the wicked deny God and his light: "He boasts about the craving of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God." Psalm 10:3-4. The pervert hides the truth and as a result, oppression and deceit arise towards the weakest in society, the orphans, the widows and the elders: "His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent. His eyes watch in secret for his victims; like a lion in cover he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net" Psalm 10:7-9.
It is then that the psalmist invokes God's protection for the humble, God does not forget the needy: "Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless. Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, ´He won't call me to account´?" Psalm 10:12-13. God is no friend of sin or sinners. In due time, God raises up the humble and humbles the proud, rewarding each according to their deeds: "But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked man; call the evildoer to account for his wickedness that would not otherwise be found out" Psalm 10:14-15.
