Neon Groves by Livijoyann [mature. klave. vietnam] Klaus Hargreeves travels back to the Vietnam War and falls in love with Dave... and we've seen almost none of it so far. Enjoy a full following of Klaus's time in 1968 from the first kiss to the first "I love you", and ultimately, to the end (with just about everything in between). 

Orange is the New Leather Skirt by Doctor959 [mature. typical hargreeves family nonsense. post-s1] A Misfits/Umbrella Academy crossover (no need to know either fandom to enjoy). The Hargreeves land by a certain community center and shit gets weird

The Light Behind A Cloud by @theseance1968 [explicit. wip. klave. vietnam] An account of Klaus’ time in Vietnam, on a diverged path where Dave survives his injuries. Flowered with opportunities, Klaus chooses to leave his old life behind and stay in the past with him. But how will his decision effect the timeline he abandoned, where his siblings continue to fight to stop the apocalypse in his absence?

The Shadows You Leave Behind by rarae [mature. brothers being brothers. tw discussions of rape and consent] The Hargreeves have stopped the apocalypse and have just returned to the real world from training Vanya in Five's weird pocket dimension. Klaus decides he needs to get some of his things to bring back to the academy and drags Diego along for the ride. They run into one of Klaus’ old ‘friends’ and shit goes down.

Watch The Heavens (They’re Falling Down) by smile_it_will_get_better [teen rating. wip. typical hargreeves family nonsense] He reached under his pillow on reflex, and there was something there, something hard and rectangular and Five couldn’t help but pull it out.It was a package, encased in brown paper, a small tag attached to the side. Five thumbed it over, ignoring Luther’s inquiries about what it said.To Mr. Five Hargreeves, watch these if you want to survive the apocalypse.

We Only See Each Other at Arrests and Bails by icestorm238 [teen rating. brothers being brothers] aka the five times Diego picked up Klaus from the police station, and the one time Klaus picked up Diego.

Where’s Dave? by multifandom_damnation [teen rating. klaus centric. family emotions] Klaus has a flashback during family time and his siblings finally learn about all the horrific shit he's gone through, a heart to heart ensues and Diego proves how good a brother he really is. It's not a great revelation to have

Wild Eyed Boy by intheflowers [not rated. klave. slow burn. vietnam] Klaus dropped into Dave's life with a flash of blue light.It was the first time Klaus suprised him, but it was far from the last, and while at first he’d wondered if Klaus was maybe a little mad, it wasn’t long before he was certain that he really, definitely was.Not that it mattered much. Klaus had stolen his heart long before then.

For All TUA Feedback Fest - Firstly, please note that I am a Hargreeves Shipper, and as such, many of these recs are Kliego, 2/4/6, etc focussed.

My second fic rec list for TUA! I’m someone who lovessss smut, but I reallllly love smut that has emotions. It doesn’t always have to be happy, loving emotions either. Just things that make you feel. Sometimes they make you laugh! Sometimes they give you complicate emotions. But... Here are some of my favourites!

Here are a few of my favorite whumpy one shots!

Every now and then you just want to sit back and enjoy a quick story, a single chapter that packs a punch and know that it’s going to hit you exactly where it’s supposed to! I prefer little whumpy/angsty one shots and sickfics (but I do adore a good fluff piece, too!!!)

Here is a short list of a few that I’ve read and loved and I would highly recommend to you!!! :)

1- Family Bonding (tm) By: winterspirit13

Summary: When they decide to go on a family hiking trip, Klaus doesn't have the heart to say no. But he feels awful. The only trouble is that no one will listen to him, they just assume he's being dramatic and Klaus as usual. Not rated; angst/sickfic/family bonding. 1,523 words

My review: Okay, this story was really good! It packs so much visualization and characterization into the chapter! It follows the family as they go on a family hiking trip, but leave it to the Hargreeves to not be able to make a simple evening anything other than a mission. Klaus isn’t feeling so hot, but of course he can’t help but still build up his façace of being goofy even while still admitting that he’s sick. No one takes him seriously until they’re forced to! Really, really well written, and I felt like everyone was in character! I’ve read it a few times when I’m in the mood for a good whumpy story! Highly recommend!!

2- End of The Line By: Lyviel

Summary: What if Klaus and Dave were both super dramatic when sick? Rated G; sickfic/fluff/comfort. 930 words

My Review: You guysssss oh my god this is too cute lol like, it’s Klaus and Dave both being pathetic and sick but it’s so soft and I just adore it!! Seriously such a fluffy little piece!! One of my all time faves!!

3- All You Need Is Someone Who Cares By: bloodamber

Summary: Klaus turns up at Diego’s one night, sick and wanting some brotherly bonding time. Diego just wants to sleep.

"How bad is it?"

"How bad is what?" Klaus plays dumb, his big Bambi eyes staring at him with all the innocence Diego knows he doesn’t have.

"The cold you are clearly trying to hide from me."

Klaus looks ready to argue before letting out a sneeze that is hard enough to rock his body forward. Diego just gives him his best-unimpressed look.

[Set before the series] Rated Teen and up; sickfic/sibling bonding/platonic bed sharing/protective Diego Hargreeves. 7,805 words.

My review: This is another story that is just sooooo well executed guys! I really love the way this is written, all of the details and moments between the brothers. It’s just a really well thought out and excellent read! If you love “caretaker Diego” and “Sick Klaus” stories with angst and fluff intermingled all together between, you’ll definitely enjoy this one!!

4- There Are Flowers In My Lungs, I Cant Breathe By sweetiedarling

Summary: There are flowers filling up his lungs and climbing up his windpipe, and he's leant over the toilet bowl, coughing them up. They won't stop, no matter how much he begs for air. Rated G; Hanahaki disease/unrequited love. 6,348 words

My Review: GUYS! Okay, I’d never heard of hanahaki disease before, but this broke me. This was soooo well written, such a devastating “illness” and just a wonderful story!! I definitely recommend giving this one a try! It was really well done! 10/10 recommend!

5- Can’t Get Enough By: DeathIsHauntedByHumans

Summary: Klaus and Dave meet at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting and fall in loooooove. (Or, alternately, falling in love involves a lot more puking than Klaus wants it to.) Rated M; drug addiction/withdrawal/vomiting/hurt/comfort/sickfic. 6,631 words

My Review: Okay, this was a hardcore delve into Klaus’s struggles with sobriety, really showed him during his worst bits with withdrawal, and finding comfort and refuge with Dave who is also in his narcotics anonymous group. It’s A/U and is sooooooooo well written. This is beautiful you guys, I’ve read it dozens of times it’s such a fantastic read.

I have sooo many I could recommend, so I may split up and do another one of these with more one shots or stories with three chapters or less that I recommend! I’ll definitely do at least 1 more one shot based one, I just can’t search them all out right now! But definitely check these ones out if you haven’t already!!

One heart for self-love on this self-promo list. I am pretty proud of the fic I’ve written in the past year for this fandom. My first ever foray into writing anything close to romance, my first ever writing for a ship - also my longest finished piece ever! I wrote a fluffy (by my standards) AU that is in a totally different world than canon, just for fun - all things I haven’t really done before. 

The support I got from the fandom is the only reason I wrote more than the first fic I published, and I’m so happy I did. I love you guys all so much, and I’m so happy that I’ve been able to create and share stuff that you enjoy!

Bad Stuff in a Bad Place - Rating: T⎜Word Count: 8k+⎜Complete (1/1)

The title is basic but also it’s fairly descriptive of what you’ll get in here. Pre-series, in his time with the police academy, Diego is out on a drugs bust and comes across Klaus. It’s a bad place, with some bad stuff.

Another Stupid Pointless Mission - Rating: T⎜Word Count: 12k+⎜Complete (1/1)

The sequel to Bad Stuff. Takes place a week or so later, and this time is from Klaus’ pov. It fills in some of the details that aren’t a part of the first one, and still is primarily about Diego and Klaus’ relationship during their pre-series years. 

(I might still write more in this series, basically a fic about each of the kids in this time period, and if I do, it’s Luther up next!)

Everyone Gets Here Eventually - Rating: M⎜Word Count: 47k+⎜Complete (3/3)

Dave is in the afterlife, and he’s waiting for Klaus to join him, but it’s taking a long while. You might notice it is Long. It was quite a project for me but I’m pretty happy with it! Featuring pining, longing, and yearning, and my absolute favorite pairing ever.

There’s a Reason They Don’t Make Punching Bags Out of Wood - Rating: M⎜Word Count: 4k+⎜Complete (1/1)

I’m pretty fond of this little fic! Basically Klaus has a complete break from reality, because landing in the midst of the Vietnam War after the kidnapping and torture and withdrawals? Feels pretty unreal. He’s not sure if this is more torture or if he’s dead and in hell or what, but he’s ready to play chicken with the universe to find out. Except. There’s this guy Dave.

Ohmygodwhy – some of the best Klaus pre-series fics (that sometimes end in canon) I have read, omg they are all so good. They will break your heart though.

Post not-Apocalypse

Everyone gets here eventually by anielle – Dave waiting in the afterlife for Klaus. This one is just fantastic! And also very sad and fluffy, it got it all! Really good characterisation of Dave too.

Vietnam

There are so many good Vietnam fics, I could go on and on and on about them. But some of my favourites are:

Ten Months by Majure – This is one of my favourite fics of all time, and it deserves more love and kudos! Perfect characterization and some really good ocs. Read it 13 times now, and I can never get enough! Also the other fics by Majure are also just amazing, check them out!

Tinh Yeu by Scalliwag – also deserves more love and kudos! Porn with a lot of feelings and is about the three tattoos Klaus gets in Vietnam.
