While up there, I got the opportunity to visit Redbeard brewing company up in Staunton with some friends. Good times.
So I tried... 5? Drinks I think, we all kind of tasted the ones everybody else got, but I bought 4 myself. I forgot to get pictures of the other 2 :P
Started off with an AMOG Coffee Stout. I believe it was either 45 or 60 IBU. This is hands down the best coffee stout I’ve had. Period. Really any coffee beer, porterhouse or otherwise. Coffee in the morning, beer at night! What’s not to like?
My friend got the Hype Train, a 0 IBU Double IPA, which I got to try some of, excellent, perfectly clean. All of the flavor of an IPA, the complex citrus notes and whatnot, with no bite whatsoever. It was hard to believe it was a double IPA. I got a glass of it, it was really too good to pass up.
Then, there was the Blueberry Wheat. It was a blueberry muffin turned into a beer. 25 IBU, I believe. Clean, strong blueberry flavor, sweet wheat, very clean, distinct flavor.
And lastly, I got a Black Rye IPA. Dark, heavy, strong flavor, pleasant dark notes. It was a great beer to finish on. I think I paid 13 bucks for it all. Left me with a pleasant heavy buzz before we went to see a theater showing of Romeo and Juliet. (Where I had a Vienna Lager to keep the buzz going).
I didn’t drink much while I was up there, but having been here, I think I might change that for June.

One of my favorite spots up there is the Apple Tree, on top of a hill. It’s scenic, it looks like such a cliche area. I mean a single lone tree on the very top of a hill that looks over an entire valley. Ironically I only went up there once during the week, mostly because it was particularly busy, eventful, and my energy wasn’t exactly at its peak.Â
What a great view up there. It was worth risking the ticks to get up there. Takes about 30 minutes of crossing hills through tall grass to get up it.Â
I think I’ll be spending more time up here during mid to late June.
So basically, up at the farm, 20 something artists come together and live as a community for a little over a week on a farm where one of the barns has been converted into a studio space. It’s a really great experience, and all of the people are absolutely fantastic. Each year we have a show sometime in Fall. Last year, this place opened me up a lot, it brought a lot of feelings to surface and a lot of truths I wasn’t ready to encounter, which caused me to isolate myself and stop posting on here in order to focus on working through these issues that had resurfaced. By the time I had finished sorting out a lot of these issues, I was constantly being bombarded with new problems that were distracting me from my social life and social media.Â
Now, I feel revitalized having come again. It was a fantastic experience I wouldn’t trade the world for. I got to see many of the people from last year, and met some fantastic new people this year. Many of whom shaped me in a positive way throughout the duration of the trip. It gave me a good dose of energy and I feel like I can come back to this full force, focusing my energies on networking and socializing more, as well as posting and interacting with social media.
I’ll try not to post TOO much about the farm, but a lot happened, and so I’ll likely have a few posts regarding it over the next few days.
I hear Aurora occasionally on some TV shows and in movies. Most recently, within Mass Effect Andromeda, and now, on The Flash as of tonight’s episode. It’s really nice to hear her music spreading out, as it has been an absolutely positive experience for me, and I would do wrong by not including her in a list of musical inspirations for me.
She’s currently one of the few people younger than me, who truly inspires me, whom I look up to, and drives me to be better than I already am. Her music is like a battle against depression and anxiety, with this personality brilliantly shining through, reaching outwards and offering a hand.Â
I am a depressed individual. Not majorly depressed, but it is always with me, and it can always become problematic. This music uplifts me. I would put Black Water Lilies, as it is the most directly uplifting, but this one resonates with me the most out of her many songs.
She’s a truly magnificent artist and I hope to see more music from her. (Which I’m not too worried about with how fast she writes music!)
ON A TOTALLY UNRELATED NOTE: There will be a small period of potential inactivity for this coming week, as I leave for the farm on the 18th or 19th, and I will be back on the 26th, where I will post my adventures, and my art. I have no service up there, so unfortunately, there will only be a few updates, if any, for that week.

I’d also like to post inspirations, aspects that motivate me, this will be the first of many.
I really resonate with the music here, it helps level me out. At some point I’d really love to do a time lapse painting to this song. Spoiler, I’ll probably be doing Time Lapse stuff before the end of the year.
I hadn’t seen the music video, a lot of 2016 I wasn’t really exploring music or even paying attention from well, when I stopped blogging here up until, well, probably less than 2 months ago. This video resonated with me artistically. Specifically within printmaking, I’ve been playing with the human figure, body parts, and abstractions, such as glitch, tessellation, and color corruption. If I ever get back into Digital Art, I’ll likely continue this trend of work there as well. Seeing this absolutely beautiful blend of human figures and abstraction really struck me, and though I’m not currently working on those, it urges me to go back into the printmaking studio and get some more work done in that vein of artistic vision.
Great music video, and a beautifully gripping song, I urge anyone to give it a listen. I also recently found out that this song was featured in Cloak & Dagger’s trailer. It was also in How to Get Away with Murder, where I first heard it. (Incidentally, HTGAWM led me to a lot of interesting musical discoveries when I really started opening back up to music again this year.)
 I have a few goals for the summer. Due to a few circumstances within home and family, I’m at a stage in my life where I have to jump in and really start bringing in money with this art stuff, or I have to stop if I’m going to survive. In that sense this song resonates with me even stronger, a sense of urgency, a sense of duty and work hidden behind overwhelming obstacles at times.Â
As such, before the end of the summer, I’ll likely have to build a legitimate website, complete with a solid portfolio, for both school, commission, and work in at least 3 very differing artistic outlets (Illustration, Painting/Drawing, and Printmaking). I also have a few stretch goals to do, which include finishing the documentation of Art366, beginning screen printing (And potentially setting up a small printing and matting/framing service), as well as a various How-to and Time Lapse videos on Youtube.
I’ve had a wonderful opportunity to focus on my studies, on experimentation, on art for the sake of art, but right now I have needs that have to be met for the sake of not just myself but others as well. I want to give back to my family for the opportunity they helped create for me. Therefore, I’m going to really focus, I need to move past my introversion, anxiety, depression, motivation issues, all of it. If I can’t, I’m unfit to make art a career, and I’ll swallow my pride and put it completely on the back burner for this, and now I have a time constraint, a deadline that really forces me into a corner.
Despite posting a WiP yesterday, truthfully I’m still unsure of the aesthetic of this blog, and how much I want to do. Text Posts and Visual Content are a given. But if I throw in writing, reblogs, quotes, and other stuff (which is relevant to me as an artist, and therefore, relevant to this Tumblr), I feel it might become muddied. So I’m considering how to approach it.
Due to my rather verbose nature when it comes to writing, I often create conversational posts that, while I can use the neat truncating feature to more or less keep my blog looking somewhat clean despite utilizing both a number of text posts along with original visual content, it leaves something to be desired.
So, I think I’m going to start updating my text posts with an Image, in order to keep the format of my blog cleaner and more efficient. I’ll test it out, and if I like it, I’ll continue posting images as the place holders for my writing.
If I do that, I’ll include a link with information on how to navigate the blog (with links to specific families of posts), and I’ll start adding in tags to differentiate Text Posts, Art Posts, etc.
