October 4. Phone Call
The episode about Whisper and Babble made me so sad. Gave me a little bit of Jane Prentiss in Hive vibes. Person driven to the brink by bone-deep monotony and the bleakness of trying to belong, of trying to be acknowledged, eventually succumbs to a primordial horror.
Actual tears. What was its real name......
Yeah sure, there's eldritch horrors, and bodies being twisted into fresh meat monsters in the blink of an eye, and human sacrifices being completely normalized in this society, but THE WORST thing I've yet expierienced in this podcast is the fucking rambling whispering.
Thinking about skipping this episode entirely and just reading the transcript instead, I think I'm gonna rip off my ears any second now.

Ok but Whisper's voice was legit terrifying who was one who voiced Whisper? It was genuinely spooky
Ok i am kinda sus about Paige now, cause yeah she didn't betray or kill them, she clearly didn't want to betray or kill them, and even if she did she would have been in the right to do so, girl was kidnapped but also....... You don't just have a good aim on your first try, you aren't just able to make a killing shot at your first try, and definitely not when the target is moving. And she did all that after coming back and without hesitation!!! Like girl what are you hiding?? I will still love you but i doubt you are also not as insane as the rest of them.
Carpenter was lot more caring here. Like she was still her tired and sarcastic self but with added care for both Faulkner and Paige. Also 👀👀👀👀👀are we seeing doubts about the Trawlerman??? 👀👀👀👀 are we leaving our river cult bestie 👀👀👀👀👀????
Love how Faulkner just spent almost all of the chapter in pain and sleeping, maybe a nap would fix him? (It won't)
Also this chapter gives another interesting tidbit about the gods and it iis that they are not loyal to their followers. Whisper made as many sacrifices as it can to Babble, but at the time of its need Babble just didn't come (or it came too late, if the phone ringing at the end was anything to go by). Maybe it wasn't powerful enough to do anything to save the Whisper? Or maybe it didn't want to and my theory about that the gods gain the most power when they feast on their most loyal-devoted followers/saints in correct? Who knows we'll see. Anyway loved it!!!
