     The tickets in Yosuke’s hand felt like they each weighed a hundred pounds, and each time he thought about them they felt just a little bit heavier. His heart felt as though it had decided to work double time, and if he didn’t feel like a complete idiot who was five seconds away from blacking out he might have been able to laugh. God, he was an idiot. A complete and total dork. There really was no reason to get so worked up--except for the little fact that Saki could totally blow him off and crush him with a single word, if she wanted to.

     Just do it already!

     With a deep, slightly shuddering breath, Yosuke gathered his courage and steeled himself for whatever rejection might come. Forcing a smile, he slipped the pair of tickets into his apron pocket, slammed his locker door a little more loudly than he meant to, and marched off to find Saki before his nerves could get the best of him.

      “H-Hey...Saki-senpai? Do you have a minute? I-I wanna ask you something...”

          Consuming tea hasn’t done anything for her in many years now, but there is still something soothing about the act of brewing it regardless. Doing so for another person is especially true ------ she sets the cup down for the young woman and sits across from her, quiet and observing. She doesn’t ask questions, doesn’t demand to know what happened. Only offers safe haven to a frightened girl late at night.

Besides, Inaba is small. Even a hermit such as Yunji heard stories, gossip murmured by residents she passed during the evening hours. Sometimes gathered by the crows that linger in her garden, her eyes and ears during the day. Saki’s situation was still quite well known. The poor thing ------ too young to have endured what she has.

He flipped opened the file to see who he was going to talk to and his eyes widerened a little. “Whoa, seriously?”

The name spoke volumes to the detective. They’d spoken to her before, since she’d been the one to find Mayumi Yamano’s body hanging from a telephone pole. When they got the call that she’d gone missing, Adachi was sure that most people were thinking the same thing: here comes another body. But no, apparently not. The smiling mugshot on the thin file he was carrying was clearly hers. It was hard to forget a pretty face like that.

He scanned the notes at the bottom as he got to the interrogation room. ‘Highly mistrustful’ and ‘seems to be hiding something’ were the first ones to jump out at him. Great, so he’d have to work for this. Well, at least she wasn’t dead.
