rules: congrats! your book has been adapted into a movie or show! what background character are you going to play for your cameo? and what visual medium would best suit your book?Ā
(i ended up completely skipping the cameo part and just rambling about visual + musical details of said adaptation oops) (ramble under the cut because itās loooong)Ā
....not saying iāve daydreamed about this exact thing in detail but thatās exactly what iāve done so buckle in for a long ass ramble i guess
so for both of my wips, i cant imagine them as anything but movies because i rarely watch shows and i just like the format better?? iād rather have my whole story in one piece i guess.
so iām thinking format/aesthetic of kinda a coming of age wholesome movie for the stars dismantled, and much of the same for of things that once were but more unhinged. the stars dismantled would have the likes of ahare mon, cheeni, the half of it, the map of tiny perfect things, and words on bathroom walls. of things that once were would have the same aesthetics as the queens gambit, tribhanga, and umrao jaan (minus the problematic parts of that movie) which basically makes ottow the same aesthetic as tsd except itās unhinged :) both would be live action!!
tsd would start off with the production company intros and whatnot and then it would be the title of the movie written on paper with watercolor with floral accents and detailing. the main creds would show on random surfaces (shop signs, laundry hung up to dry, sides of buildings, on kites) in a short montage of scenes of daily life in the location and time period, establishing setting and aesthetic with a light song playing in the background. weād get the story, with lots of slow pans of a birds eye view of the city, close ups of peopleās faces and seemingly arbitrary objects that come into play later. a chill soundtrack which i might compose some of, with lots of sitar and piano (the instruments adhira, tsd mc plays) and french horn and harp. adhira is a very unreliable narrator who often blurs the lines between reality and daydreams (think back to the watercolor title intro thing) so it would be a lot of graphics and playing around with photoshop and filters too. it would outro with another montage of objects that we now know the meaning behind (subjects of symbolism) and the same song as the intro but heavier, swelling and falling depending on the weight of the object being shown. rises to a great crescendo with a full symphony orchestra and a lot of timpani at the end, only to suddenly dwindle decrescendo to an end.Ā
for ottow, itād begin with fire and ice and both and neither all at once, and you kinda cant tell which is coming from which or where one ends and the other begins, the two elements are so one. and thereās some lonely sitar and thereās this one lonely melody that plays throughout the movie, in different forms depending on the emotion being presented. :D
