Rituals and Ancestors
What food is to our body, ritual is to our soul. A ritual keeps us connected to our spirit, our soul and our purpose. Shaking hands with friends and strangers, celebrating birthdays, or as simple as getting ready for the day, all have routine or ritual that brings confidence that the day will proceed as planned.
Different cultures also have rituals of life such as sacred holy days, births, weddings, funerals, parades, and so on. This is the way humans live, celebrate and rejoice. Understanding the root of these traditions and knowing the biological ties are important especially as the shapes of families are shifting, in many cases due to the technologies used to assist in creating them.
Whether one shares many characteristics with family members or defines oneself in opposition to them, relating with one's immediate kin is often the best way to understanding self. Every year, thousands of people set off on the path to find their ancestors. They search for the names, dates, and places they need to complete their family trees. Our ancestors were more than names and dates however. They were real people with full lives. Reaching beyond the basic awareness can help us understand their lives better, learn more about history, and often find a source of inspiration for our own lives.
Ancestors are the foundation of who we are because they passed on values and traditions through the generations. Once upon a time, they, too, were making their mark on the world through their choices. By honoring them and taking the best lessons from their efforts, we in turn honor and celebrate our own lives. It is important to maintain a two-way kind of relationship with the ancestors. Our successes and failures in life are a direct reflection of who they are and once were.
Life is what we make of it, so it is said. It is very much so with ancestors as well. Your ancestors from the higher expressions can be a source of inspiration, help and protection. Many people have no idea how powerful the hidden influence of their ancestors is on the life they are living. Building a strong working relationship with ancestors with the highest intent is foundational to the scheme of life. Once this relationship is built, assistance is available in every aspect of life, and they will be there to help. They are our own spiritual allies and are powerful, to say the least. Why wouldn't one choose not to access them? It is your birthright, so let us not forget those who are there to help!

Listing the three most important spiritual lessons you have experienced
We invite you to list the three most important spiritual lessons you have experienced so far. Each of these would have created a shift in your awareness. Here are three that stand out today…
1. Natural Laws, fundamental forces within nature, prevail and are always in balance. One law crudely stated is "what goes around comes around." Observation has shown that any effort to intervene will never gain favor or loss. Correct understanding of this law realizes that there are no coincidences. However, there are those moments of “meaningful coincidence” when the boundary dissolves between the inner and the outer worlds. Touching the heart of our being, synchronicities are moments when we realize a higher reality that has been and is always present.
2. Each one of us is the master of our own destiny and that every thought and action we create impacts ourselves and all others within the web of life. Be it in the form of a plea, prayers of gratitude, negotiation, declaration of fact, or screams of frustration. All are heard no matter the reason or the source. Claiming and owning our destiny makes choices appear that were previously oblivious. All that is necessary to our life's journey is available to us through our own willingness to open our hearts and minds to the possibilities of our higher self.
3. There is no death and there are no dead. Death is not the extinction of life. As Rumi, a Persian poet once described it, “Death is our wedding with eternity.” Every moment there is the gradual disintegration of our bodies through a balance of cell death and cell division. Cells in our body die, all the while the whole continues to thrive. Such is nature. Through the process, we are given a new body. We are revitalized with the same life force that energizes all living things. Deepok Chopra in his book entitled Life After Death describes: “Every former self you have left behind is a ghost. Your thoughts, your body, your ideas have all changed. You have survived thousands of deaths every day as your old thoughts, your old cells, your old emotions, and even your old identity passes away. You are already living in the afterlife right now. What is there to fear?”
