Summary: Human disaster Clint Barton almost ruins his marriage (and absolutely does destroy his reputation) but it doesn’t matter what the press will think, as long as his family knows the truth and knows they’re loved.
That time Clint convinced Bucky that claiming false paternity was the answer.

Note: As I mentioned in some other recently published fics, the AO3 author curse has come for me but I am dedicated to am blackouting all my bingos so I am doing my best to lock in and writing whenever I can—during my lunch break, on the train, legit whenever I have a spare second. This fic takes place in the same universe as two of my other fics… And is a prequel to both so you don’t need to read either to read this one. 😉This fills my N2: Clint’s Apartment Building square for the @winterhawkbingo.
Many thanks to my beta, @tinysugacube, who is the perpetual 🐐when it comes to grammatical prowess and making my fics shine. And of course, thank you to Marvin for his seal of approval.

“So, how would you feel about it if I told everyone I cheated on you?”
Bucky set the forkful of eggs he had been about to put in his mouth back onto his plate. “I beg your pardon?”
“You know.” Clint shrugged. “Like, if I just. Made it public knowledge that I had cheated on you?”
Bucky was incredibly confused at the turn their Saturday morning breakfast had taken. “You—what?”
“Well, so. Yesterday, I went over to Katie’s to try and fix that stupid shower drain again, as if the problem isn’t her hair needing to get snaked out every few months, and she was crying, and so of course I asked why she was crying, and it turns out she’s pregnant—”
“Kate Bishop?” Bucky said with disbelief. “You cheated on me and got your twenty-year-old tenant—who is over two decades your junior—pregnant? Is that what you’re telling me right now?”
Clint choked on his coffee, slamming the mug so firmly on the table that Bucky was surprised it didn’t shatter. “What, no! Of course not!” he exclaimed once he could breathe again.
“Then what are you saying?” Bucky scratched the back of his head. “I’m confused.”
