Last Walks in Tsarasambo, Madagascar
When I first moved to Tsarasambo two years ago, I took pictures all of the time as I meandered around. Every sight was new, intriguing, and exciting.
After time, the visions of village life became my every day “normal.” I would see men paddling loads of bananas down the Sakanila river in canoes, barefoot women carrying children on their backs for kilometers at a time, women selling fried bananas and snacks at the market, teenagers working for their families in between their studies to sell fabrics and household goods in town, women planting, picking, then pounding rice, chickens roaming freely, and people of all ages-including young children- transporting whatever their family needed from place to place.
The village was sweetly peaceful but always busy. Everyone worked tirelessly for everything they had. As I was nearing the end of my time in Tsarasambo, I took a walk at dusk one day and attempted to capture the activity of my neighbors to share a bit about what their daily jobs entailed.
I will no longer be a part of this community, each day, seeing these sights. But every moment and every smile has become a piece of me and these photos will always hold hundreds of stories in my own mind. I hope the beauty of life in Tsarasambo will move you as well.
