I use 'Tsalagi' (the ts makes a dj or ch sound; dja/chah-lah-gee) instead of 'Cherokee' because that's how it was pronounced originally; 'Tsaragi' is also applicable, but that's more of an Eastern Band thing, while I'm Nation. 'Cherokee' is the English dialect, the way the colonizers spoke.
Idgaf if you think 'Tsalagi' or 'Tsaragi' makes us sound "fake"; maybe question why our "official" name is in the dialect of the colonizers…
If you wanna use 'Cherokee' then go ahead, cool beans, wot ever, happy for you, that's the "official" term after all. But it's very weird to see our original dialect(s) shamed and mocked, especially by someone who frequently promotes educational aids for learning our tongue…
