TS7 Release Day
SO I have my own VERY personal theory that I really need confirmed. It has been a long standing joke within my group of friends and even my family now that Taylor only releases albums and sometimes singles at the same time I have something very big going on in my life. Here is the general list (skip to 7 for TS7):
1. I first fell in love with Taylor’s music on myspace in 2006 when my parents finally decided middle school was a good time for me to be allowed online.
2. The Fearless Album came out the same autumn that I started high school and it was the perfect soundtrack to that time in my life and matched so much of what I was going through. AKA Fifteen and You Belong With Me were truly game changers
3. Speak Now, this album came out exactly when I was just halfway through high school and was going through some of my first, at the time, really big heart breaks and the time when I was starting to feel like my own person. Never Grow Up really really helped when I was starting to apply to colleges and my dad was getting more sick, plus lets face it high school was full of bullies so Mean was a great little anthem for when I was experiencing that.
4. Red, the first single WNGBT came out the day I was driving to move into my first college dorm and was the reason I bonded so quickly with my roommates. The album came out later that fall and really helped me as I went through all the emotions of my first college relationships and looking back at the end of my high school one.
5. 1989 was perfect for me, I had to transfer colleges half way through and this album come out the week I moved into my new and first apartment. It led to dance parties with my new roommates and lots of wine nights full of laughter and fun. Shake it Off fueled our late night study sessions and 1989 was also my first time finally getting to see Taylor in concert!
6. Reputation. Lets face it that year we missed out on a Taylor’s traditional album release timeline was hard for so many of us, but I am so thankful she waited. AKA glad she somehow knew to wait because when she released Rep I had just moved to England. No one knew what the new album would be about or sound like but WOW for her to use British slang and talk about boys with accents?? I mean thats when the theory got really weird but alas... IT HAS ONLY GOTTEN MORE REAL!
7. TS7 ... ah the one that might just confirm the theory. See, I am used to Taylor saving her releases for the Fall and generally that worked for me because my big life changes surrounded school years and that meant new albums just at the right time. BUT WAIT, I am done with school this spring, FOREVER. PANIC! set in........ Taylor then had the audacity and honestly pure kindness to release ME! on my last day of law school. AMAZING! My friends and I celebrated the end of the law school era with wine, tequila, and the start of a new Taylor era. BUT IT GETS BETTER. There is a very popular theory that Taylor’s new album will come out on July 26th... why is this important? OH because that day is ALSO my 25th BIRTHDAY!
Listen, I have lived a full 13 years of my life loving Taylor and all she stands for. In an interview years back when asked what her advice was to young aspiring artists, she said “get a good lawyer” has fueled my passion to study Intellectual Property and Entertainment law. Taylor has inspired me to love myself, and love others. Never to fear falling in love, no matter how many times you have been hurt. But most of all Taylor has given me music that has been the soundtrack, quite literally, to my life. Music that expresses what I am going through as I go through it. I love her for that, and that she is unapologetically herself. ANYWAY
Taylor, I hope you see this, and I hope that for my 25th birthday I get to enjoy TS7.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk..
