Wedding Traditions
Tiara Protocol: A Princess of the Blood, lucky for her, can choose anything tiara she wants, although HM The King does have the final say. In the case of private citizens marrying into the family, they have access to a limited, younger tiara set. They can never wear the tiaras of Queen Regnants, a rule enacted by Queen Alana of Freret to create rank between her daughters and daughters-in-law. It's also common for the bride to wear a tiara associated with their granted peerage. For example, the Duchess of Audubon wore the Banks of Audubon Tiara for her wedding to HH, The Duke of Audubon.
Married the Night(s) Before: Since the Union of Kingdom days, royal couples have always legally tied the knot a day or two before their public ceremony. Married royals often joke about having already been married twice since a family ceremony happens before the public ceremony. The first wedding is more legal than formal and involves contracts, property leases, title inaugurations, etc. One explanation is that citizens marrying into the royal family are technically royal when wearing tiaras or uniforms associated with military honors.
Bye Bye Citizenship: Any private citizen who marries into the royal family gives up their rights to well...private citizenship. Meaning, when Ms. Taiylor becomes HRH Princess Taiylor, she will also lose her right to vote, comment on political matters. She cannot be employed/receive payments outside of the Crown Estate or other government-granted funds. Until King Henry, all royals also surrendered their right to drive themselves--luckily, Taiylor won't have that to worry about as all current family members drive.
Crown Royal Kids: Per the succession laws established during the Union of Kingdoms, any children produced by members of the royal family are legal "wards of the Crown ." What does this mean? If Taiylor and Prince David divorce, HM The King technically has custody over their children and can decide their guardian.
Family Mass/Church Service: The family travels to Windenberg Castle, considered the ancestral home of all monarchs since U5K, for mass/church in Union Chapel. Before King Henry's reign, only the bride or groom marrying into the family were allowed to join, but modern rulers have both sides of the family join the service.
National Tour: Senior royals always conclude their wedding with a national or regional tour of some sort, as a thank you to the nation for joining in on their special day. In recent years, most couples visit the Duchy or Earldom granted to them following their wedding. However, heir apparents and senior royals usually do more extensive tours, covering more ground.
