Trunky Juno warmly greets us with new single âSerial Killer Vibesâ, a lovely slice of upbeat acoustic technicolour-pop crafted in his basement studio in the North East of England. The song expands on his already eclectic repertoire by dressing up an anxiety fuelled lyric with Trunkyâs trademark charming melodic hooks and balmy tones.
Lyrically âSerial Killer Vibesâ is the musical equivalent of meeting a fist bump with a handshake, then calling someone the wrong name before accidentally insulting their mother whilst verbally digging a hole that seems to get deeper and deeper with every word. And even though this incident happened four years ago, its 3AM and you havenât slept because youâre still thinking about it, asking yourself âwhy did I say thatâ. Distil all of that down into a song and you get âSerial Killer Vibesâ.
Talking about the song, Trunky says:
â'Serial Killer Vibesâ is a track that haunted me for a long time because I knew there was a good song in there, but I just couldnât figure out how to present it in a way that allowed anyone else to see it too. Itâs not really a song about serial killers at all, itâs about perspective, living inside your own head and trying your hardest not to be weird when you just are. It's an ode to painfully awkward exchanges, which is going to become very relatable once we all start trying to interact with each other again.â
âSerial Killer Vibesâ is the latest single off Trunky Junoâs forthcoming âGood Dog EPâ which is released July 2nd on Young Poet. It follows recent singles âDaddyâs Gone for Cigarettesâ and âFavourite Showâ which have been championed by Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1âs Future Artists and The Indie Show, and been playlisted across Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and YouTube.
During a successful yet reclusive 2020, Trunky Juno released debut EP âToo Many Teethâ, gaining support from Beats 1 (Zane Lowe), Spotify, The Line of Best Fit and DORK amongst others and was anointed a BBC Focus Artist for 2021.

Trunky Junoâs âGood Dogâ Is the Remedy For Whatever Ails You
Whatâs your go-to strategy for recovering from lifeâs most awkward moments? Iâm talking about when you accidentally say âyou tooâ after someone wishes you happy birthday, or prematurely bidding goodbye to a friend, only to discover theyâre walking in the same direction as you. If youâre searching for the perfect way to overcome the cringe and disappear and set off into a sea of carefree confidence might I suggest Trunky Junoâs Good Dog EP, a melodic, high-spirited, indie-pop experience sure to make you forget your troubles.
Actually, maybe you wonât forget the awkwardness but instead embrace it. Thatâs what Juno manages to do on âSerial Killer Vibes,â a song centered on that feeling of âmeeting a fist bump with a handshake,â as he puts it.
âItâs not really a song about serial killers at all, itâs about perspective, living inside your own head and trying your hardest not to be weird when you just are. It's an ode to painfully awkward exchanges, which is going to become very relatable once we all start trying to interact with each other again,â he shares.
Even though he knew exactly what he wanted this song to become, bringing the concept to fruition was not without its challenges. ââSerial Killer Vibesâ is a track that haunted me for a long time because I knew there was a good song in there, but I just couldnât figure out how to present it in a way that allowed anyone else to see it too,â he confesses.Â
Finessing the details of this track was essential. âI was trying to find a way to present the song so that someone wonât just skip by it after five seconds,â he says. The result is an upbeat, relatable, and irresistibly catchy ode to being awkward. âLyrics, production, performance, every little detail going into the song matters and adds to it,â adds Juno.
Unafraid of digging into the offbeat and eccentric realities of our daily existence, Trunky delivers âHawaiian Pizza,â a reflection on uniting with people who are just as different as you are. The lead single from the EP, âDaddyâs Gone for Cigarettesâ similarly takes an innocuous activity and uses it to make a larger point about escapism.
âOn the surface it may seem like a bunch of nonsense about pizza and cigarettes, but if you dig a little deeper hopefully people will realize thereâs a lot more to these songsâwhether tackling themes of escapism or the one-way mirror of social media,â he says.
Wrapped in a package of hooky vocals and bright production the Good Dog is a package of bullish catharsis that reverberates through your consciousness.

Trunky Juno greets us with latest single âFavourite Showâ, a synth-pop ballad from an alternate reality. Imagine for a moment a parallel universe in which Neil Young has joined the Backstreet Boys and decided to distil his observations on perspective, representation and social media into the perfect love song. Such a place could only ever exist in the head of Trunky Juno, and it was in this same head that âFavourite Showâ was born. In Trunkyâs words:
âFavourite Show was one of those songs that came about in a big spew of ideas and hasnât really changed much since. I always like to think it sounds like The Backstreet Boys fronted by Neil Young. Heâs having the worst time ever, but the vocal harmonies are on the money.â
âFavourite Showâ is the second single off Trunky Junoâs forthcoming âGood Dog EPâ which is announced today, available for pre-order and released July 2nd on Young Poet. It follows the recent single âDaddyâs Gone for Cigarettesâ which has been championed by Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1âs Future Artists and The Indie Show and been playlisted across Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and YouTube.
During a successful yet reclusive 2020, Trunky Juno released debut EP âToo Many Teethâ, gaining support from Beats 1 (Zane Lowe), Spotify, The Line of Best Fit and DORK amongst others. Anointed a BBC Focus Artist for 2021 and performing at BBC Radio 1âs Virtual Big Weekend, Trunky finished the year signing with London-based tastemaker label Young Poet.

(Trunky Juno)
Barrelling through the saloon doors with wobble-pop indie anthem âDaddyâs Gone For Cigarettesâ and a point to prove, Trunky Juno continues his exploration of lo-fi bedroom pop, injected with a healthy dose of Americana. Driven by a gigantic hook capable of uniting hipsters and truckers alike, the track deals with running away from problems and expectations for a little while â or maybe even forever. As Trunky explains:
âSometimes we all feel like going out to buy cigarettes and never coming home. Escaping reality by shaving your head and moving to a farm in the Outer Hebrides. Or maybe just turning your phone off for a few days. I loved the phrase âDaddyâs gone for cigarettesâ so much and decided to write a track around it. It took a really long time to get it right, but I hope the message is one the average anxious millennial cowboy/cowgirl out there can enjoy.â

Trunky Juno Drops New Single "Patrick Swayze"
UK based musician Trunky Juno has released his new single âPatrick Swayze,â saying âPatrick Swayzeâ went through a lot of iterations. It used to be a lot more Lynyrd Skynyrd, which in itself isnât a bad thing, but itâs not really what i was hoping for. It was after i borrowed an old Roland 09 from a friend of mine that it really came to life. After lots of hours working on it i sent my stems over to Summer Heart, who absolutely nailed it, and the rest is history.â
