Descent with Modification
An ornithologist and I have been examining 13 different finches. We found it odd they share different types of beaks. 🤔 However, it seemed convenient that these different finches were all located in different environments. After extensive research, we concluded that these beaks were a result of “descent with modification”. 👍🏻 What this means is that these beaks were traits that were better suited for their environment. Those living in an environment with nuts had a better chance of survival with a bigger beak. Thus the finches with the bigger beak will live to reproduce. In an environment where nectar was the only food source, those with long thin beaks will survive and pass down their trait. 🐤 ✌🏻
