We constantly look at the bad things that are happening around us. It's then hard to see how many wonderful and beautiful things are also occurring. Somewhere, there's someone who found out they bested cancer, two boys who were true to themselves and found in each other a partner, or someone found out they got into that one college they never thought they would get into. Somewhere, nature is prospering and natural water is running. Somewhere, people are content and at peace. Our world can be beautiful in the midst of sadness.
Weight loss
There was no specific event in my life that really prompted me to lose weight. I firmly believe it was always a combination of several things. I can go into those in further detail later, but for now, I want to introduce my weight loss journey. I wasn't always overweight, I was a thin child. I started gaining weight around the age of 9 and by the age of 10, I felt the first experience of being called fat or being told I was overweight. I know that ever since then I constantly thought about it. I mulled over it and essentially, let it take over my life. By the age of 16, I was 285 pounds which was alarming to me. I was unhappy, I felt unfulfilled and unsatisfied with who I was. I say I had tried diets and exercise programs and I did. On June 22nd, 2016, I had the gastric sleeve which is a weight loss surgery done to many morbidly obese adults. I am 17, almost going on 18, and I am currently about 173 pounds. I have reached my first goal but it continues.
The truth about my body
It's far from perfect. I have dozens upon dozens of stretch marks. Great amount of extra skin. I am not always happy with it. I can't pretend that I was or am 100% happy with it. I have days where I can imagine being in any other body besides my own. However, this only allows me to try to grow and find peace with my body. Join me on my journey of learning to truly accept and love my body. Possibly, you will learn to do the same. Whether you are skinny, chubby, curvy, fat, or average sized, we can all struggle with body image issues.
