true focus
in one of my favourite movies, X-Men: First Class, it is being said that “true focus lies somewhere between rage and serenity”. For a long time I did not understand what this meant, how can focus have anything to do with rage and serenity? it was not until I started to feel stuck and uncomfortable with my life situation, with what was going on in my life and where it would lead me if I were to continue on my current path, that it dawned on me.Â
I became so upset, tired, uncomfortable and annoyed with myself that I started to change my life, take matters into my own hands. I became so enraged that I had no mission and purpose in my life, that I went on a search for one.Â
Thankfully I came to find my place in fitness, creating content and helping others. I started to find my serenity and peace in that mission, but only because I became so uncomfortable with my old situation.Â
The quote used to mean nothing to me, it was just one I always found had a certain ring to it, maybe it was because of that that it kept being stuck in my mind, buried somewhere in the back of it.Â
I had forgotten all about it until I was sitting down to mediate and reflected once again on my situation and what I have changed in the past and why, that the quote came back to me. That’s when it hit me, the moment I realised what the quote truly meant and the value in those words.
If you want to change something, you need to become so uncomfortable and frustrated with the situation, you need to find a certain rage in that in order for you to discover a mission and a path that brings you peace and serenity.Â
Only then, can you bring yourself to change something, to change your ways, to change your habits, to change your mindset, to change your life.
Use that frustration as your fuel, because true focus lies somewhere between rage and serenity.
And sometimes you have to learn that the hard way.
