The patient must determine if the therapist is doing more harm than good : Ask if they possess the knowledge to help? I had one admit, NOPE, NO KNOWLEDGE & still tried to exert an opinion on choosing a medication while not listening to months of self-reporting that more than better, removed the issue, the therapist. So here’s the issue in health care. There is a lot of money & few answers so let’s focus on the patient. I want to know what the goals are? I want to know if there are true supports? I want to know what the patient considers strengths & weaknesses & what their ideas to help self are, and if there are hurdles that can easily be tackled in terms of “getting things done” or technology or unhelpful people so that the problems are addressed as soon as possible. Then you address more issues as they arise & you keep doing this until you get ahead of it.
Thees people have degrees but that’s about it sometimes so when faced with a whole lot of miscommunication and harmful behaviors what is a patient to do? This patient decided to address the need in all the ways that I can, verbally & in person & until the situation is corrected, you continue to be heard in whatever way you must so that one person, who knows, since it just takes one, stops the harm they’re doing and actually makes a change to help more people based on this one mistake. That is what I’m hoping for...self-identification & a change since I’m just asking this person to justify their decision & if they’re not able to do it effectively or with empathy, to recognize, you’ve done MORE harm.
Now, stop!
