It’s the fact that we’ve fetishized gay and lesbian ships so much to the fact that heterosexual ships are ‘slop’ and boring. People don’t realize that un-normalizing straight ships comes from objectifying homosexual ships. I hear people go “omg it’s gays in the wild” so much. Homosexual people aren’t animals??? What matters in a ship and in a relationship is the dynamic not necessarily the gender, it’s how they treat each other and their history and NOT their gender. I loveee yaoi ships don’t get me wrong, there is definitely a change in dynamic when it’s same gender but I can definitely appreciate and love straight ships too because they can genuinely be very cute and interesting/investing. It’s about how they’re handled and how those aspects are treated to create a genuinely good dynamic that makes a good ship. Like, not all homosexual ships are good, a handful amount of times they feel boring, bland, and forced purely for the sake of “oh hey look we have gay people in our media.” The same thing could be said for heterosexual relationships that aren’t written well. Relationships are, RELATIONSHIPS, they build UP the relation and trust and feelings, whether that’s homosexual or heterosexual. It’s so so very important that we treat relationships as LOVE instead of a show piece, because objectifying homosexuality is VERY VERY bad representation, it doesn’t treat them like a PERSON. And it wraps back around to being homophobic, because it doesn’t treat homosexual people as PEOPLE. So even though the term ‘hetoslop’ is meant to demean heterosexual people, it loops back around to dehumanizing and fetishizing homosexual people. And also, I think that equality is by treating minorities AND majorities (with exceptions) with the same amount of respect.
