The JOY that is TROYfest
Once again the event of the year, for all inhabitants of the Diff, came around and did not disappoint!
We were TEAM DECOR along with a couple of our good friends, and started planning making Troyfest beautiful back in October... It was one of the biggest tasks we’d ever taken on as it’s such a massive area to cover, and sticking to a budget it had to be as cheap and effective as possible!
We spent most of our Saturdays in scrap stores and flea markets looking for props and materials, trying to use as much recycled material as possible and avoiding buying new.
Recreate in Cardiff was a god sent, as you can go and fill a bucket full of recycled crap and turn it into something beautiful!
The theme this year was ‘In the Garden’, and we lost count of how many flowers and leaves we made... One of the most effective ideas was the JUNGLE BUNTING as one of the rooms in the manor house was named The Jungle Ballroom, exciting no? We cut out hundreds of leaves from anything green we could get our hands on, attached them to rope and hung them up high around bannisters and anything we could tie them too! It was such a simple idea but so effective, exactly what you need to transform a space.
It was a massive learning curve, teaching us to consider all aspects of decor and props, what works and what really doesn’t!
Troyfest would not be Troyfest without the people. We spent an amazing 10 days in Baskerville Hall, sleeping in bunk beds, making all day and ending usually in the bar with a few beers! We had the most fantastic team of volunteers who travelled up to help us out a couple of days before the festival started, and everyone worked so hard, we were so chuffed.
MASSIVE thank you’s to our amazing team and volunteers, we could not have done it without you! Can’t wait till next year!!!
