You are my guide post for understanding SW. I was reading Ben's Wookiepedia page to better understand the gaps and the amount of violent that he perpetrated as Supreme Leader between TLJ & TROS is overwhelming. I thought he didn't believe in the tenets of the FO? I thought as Supreme Leader he was kind of just hanging out, pining... not causing such a degree of death. I still love him as a character I just find this difificult to accept. Do you have trouble with this? Thanks for ur thoughts <3

No, I don’t. Primarily because there is no actual narrative progression which leads into tros, it doesn’t follow, and I accept no part of it whatsoever. DLF’s EU attempts to justify it mean nothing more to me than any other shitty fanfic. There was no good faith effort on the part of Jjerrio to write these characters as characters or to give them arcs, tros is a non-story and was created as transparently cynical branding exercise.

Like I said about people wanting to analyse Rey’s character- pretending there is a character there to analyse is doing tros a service it does not deserve. I’m not going to try to fit any of this into Ben’s arc, because it doesn’t. He’s by far the most coherent character of the trilogy and the only one to have an arc in tros, but only because his redemption was so inevitable that even tros’s terrible writing cannot completely derail it.

Secondarily, if there had been an intentionally written arc which included a tonne more violence, True Believing, etc., that would not have been a barrier to redemption. The bullshit they are pushing to try to make him Vader 2.0 and flatten him into a cardboard villain is bad because it makes no sense for Ben and is a pathetically hamfisted retcon of every idea he was established to express, not because it would make him irredeemable.
