JetBlue Airways Review
Disclaimer: I am not paid, or endorsed by any airline or company for these reviews. These reviews are mine, and I speak of my own experiences.
Airline: JetBlue Airways
Route: BOS-SFO
Aircraft Type: Airbus A321, Transcon layout.
Seat: 9E
Ticket Type: Non-refundable Blue
Time for another review! This time, I headed out west to warm California, from frigid New England.
JetBlue Airways, is an American low-cost carrier, that operates a fleet of Airbus Industrie A320, A321, and Embraer E190 aircraft. With its operations located in the New York borough of Queens, JetBlue services more than 90 destinations in the US, South America, the Caribbean, and Central America.
JetBlue offers 3 ticket types:
- Blue: basic ticket, with carry on and personal item included, you must pay for your checked bag
- Blue Plus: basic, plus a checked bag.
- Blue Flex: basic, plus 2 checked bags, and the ability to make changes, and fly revenue standby for free
On select routes, JetBlue offers a combination first class/business class service called Mint.
On this trip, I opted for the Blue fare, purchasing my one-way ticket for $114.10. I had the option to choose my own seat, but, I opted for the airline to assign me a seat prior to departure.
I checked in 24 hours prior on their mobile app, which at that time, I still wasn’t assigned a seat. When I looked again on my way to the airport, I was assigned 9E, which is an Even More Space seat, giving me a spacious 38 inches of seat pitch. Even More Space seats are available to passengers when they purchase their ticket at an extra cost. In this case, it was assigned free of charge.
Due to time constraints, and an exceptionally long TSA line, I skipped the check-in counter. However, once I arrived at the gate, the boarding process was about to begin. Because this flight included a Mint cabin, they boarded first, followed by groups A, B, C and D. When I attempted to board, the boarding pass on my phone caused the ticketing machine to “squawk” at me. It was at that point I was ‘scolded’ by the gate agent for not checking in with them for my new boarding pass and seat assignment.
The JetBlue inflight experience in the main cabin was unlike other airlines I have flown. The aircraft was exceptionally clean, and the flight attendants were friendly and attentive. JetBlue also has mood lighting onboard their aircraft, making the cabin atmosphere more enjoyable. Once in my seat, I had more than enough legroom, even with my backpack under the seat in front of me, and the seats were very well padded. As for the inflight snack and beverage service, it was split into 3 divisions, a water service, in which every passenger was provided a bottle of water. This was then followed by a beverage service, in which the flight attendants came through the cabin and took your beverage order, as well as your food-for-purchase order. They then came back through the cabin and served your beverage and food order. The third portion was the complimentary snack portion, including Cheez-It crackers, Abby’s Cookies, PopCorners chips, Terra Chips, and Rold Gold Pretzels. There was also a snack “bar” at the front of the main cabin, where passengers were able to serve themselves snacks and free beverages. JetBlue also offers free Wi-Fi, and seat back entertainment on all their flights. The Wi-Fi is basic, you can’t download anything or stream, as it will filter you, and slow you down further. The seat back entertainment was fantastic, and had a wide variety of shows, and live DirectTV as well.
Synopsis:
The JetBlue experience has been so far the best airline experience I’ve had. The aircraft was clean, service excellent, and the amenities were endless. The onboard services and self-serve snack bar was great, and the flight attendants were always checking on the stock to ensure that nothing was out. With the buy on board food programme, things go very quickly, so ensure that you put in your food order when the flight attendants are taking the drink orders. Overall, I can’t wait to try out another JetBlue Airways flight, and hopefully next time, in the Mint section.
