A Rabaska/R-9 racing canoe comes to northern Michigan! This past weekend AuSable Marathon volunteer Calvin Hoogerhyde travelled to Toronto to pick up the Rabaska/R-9 racing canoe that he purchased in Quebec. Martin Gervais of the ACRQ - Canot marathon R9 association met Calvin in Toronto to deliver the canoe. Calvin is organizing a Michigan Rabaska/R-9 racing team to compete in the R-9 races at the AuSable River Canoe Marathon July 29-30, and at la Classique internationale de canots de la Mauricie, the final stage of the Triple Crown of Canoe Racing, over Labor Day weekend in Quebec. Planning for the 2017 Rabaska/R-9 Race at the AuSable River Canoe Marathon is progressing nicely! After making an appearance at the inaugural event in 2016, the teams and big 9-paddler voyageur canoes of Quebec's ACRQ - Canot marathon R9 association will return in a bigger and better way. 🎉🌟 The 2017 Rabaska/R-9 competition will include a competition Saturday, July 29, on the pond at Consumers Energy Mio Dam including a running portage through the Oscoda County Park and Campground. 💪 AuSable Marathon volunteers Calvin Hoogerhyde and Justin Griffith joined Rich Castle, of Consumers Energy, in Mio, Michigan to finalize details of the Saturday, July 29 event. 🔎 All of the groups involved with organizing this great event are pleased to expand this new AuSable Canoe Marathon Rabaska/R-9 race into the Mio area during the day on Saturday. The reigning Champions of the General Clinton Canoe Regatta and Triple Crown of Canoe Racing - Guillaume Blais and Mathieu Pellerin, both of Quebec - will apparently not repeat together as Champions for either event in 2017. 👉👉 Blais is registered for the General Clinton race with fellow Quebec paddler and seven-time Triple Crown Champion Steve Lajoie.
