These are very sought after pots that are used to make tripe dishes on a hotplate on over an open fire on a trivet. They keep their heat and are super not just for cooking but also for storage and are fantastic for flour or other foodstuffs that are used on a regular basis. This is a big old lump and is a collectors item in France. We are attributing this to the Paul Chardon Factory in Malicorne sur Sathe around 1890 -1900, this purpose made Tripiere is for cooking the delicacy Tripes a mode de Caen or any dish that needs to be cooked for a long period of time. This is a a particularly decorative piece and also a pretty useful one should you wish to try your hand at making this traditional tripe dish. The lid is loose fitting but sits beautifully on the suface of the inner lip of the pot. It is also useful for storing foodstuffs such as flour or sugar - it is fabulous for this. It is old and used and as such has signs of wear and use, there are nibbles on the foot and a small chip on the side. There are chips on the handles. . It does go to the authenticity of the piece. There is a chip on the lid and the knob. The base is dark from the fire. It is a proper French antique cooking pot. It weighs 3.6 kilos about 5.25 pounds. It measures 35 cms just short of a fourteen inches across from handle to handle! No 2586
